Hi Marc!
Clearly the focus here should be LOS-related topics. However, I have noted that discussions of LOS politics do occasionally come into play. Particularly in the past month, what with the bar strike and all. There was and has been much criticism of the governor and the PM. I keep out of those discussions as I know nothing of LOS politics. So the politics and religion rule does not appear to be a rule here, or if it is , not a hard and fast one.
I am for free speech. But this is not a political forum, and I would not want it to become one. The problem with political discussions in bars or forums is that people have differing opinions which are sometimes very vehemently advocated. This results in flaming and excessive arguing and pissing.
Flaming, excessive arguing, and pissing are highly discuraged here, be it with regard to personal matters, politics or anything else. That is the policy and we have two very capable moderators to enforce it.
So I don't intend to argue politic or the merits of Mr. Bush with anyone here. But comments will slip out from time to time, as is natural. I think this is within the bounds of good conduct, and in keeping with the limited free speech direction that this board has demonstrated in the past. Particularly, when I was asked a question which directly related to LOS and the past election.
Incidentally, I grew up in an area where the NO POLITICS NO RELIGION rule was strictly enforced. However, in Marin and S.F. area where I live, the free speech rule is applied. It seems to work OK, because there are so few Republicans that it is almost unheard of to hear one defend his viewpoint in public here. In fact, every day of the week, there are demonstrations in the town I live in and the nearest town also against the war in Iraq and specifically against G.W. So Republican viewpoints here are considered politically incorrect and it is a major social faux pax to speak out in favor of any of the Republican positions. As a matter of fact, Democrats are considered a bit right of center in the town I live in. Most don't like Kerry here either. Kucinich seemed to have the most support, with some for Howard Dean.
In Forest Knolls and Lagunitas(birthplace of Lagunitas Brewing Co. which I had a hand in starting, the owner, Tony McGee, is a friend of mine) where I live, there are two political factions: the left and the extreme left. That's it. The Supervisor(like a mayor), also a buddy of mine, is very much on the left, and his opponents protray him as a sell-out and a lackey of the developers.

It is a strange world I live in!

P.S. On election day, I stopped to say hello to some of the demonstrators at the daily dmonstration which drew a really big crowd for election day. There was a babe there I hadn't seen before. Blonde, slim, stacked, face to die for, absolutely awesome hottie in every way. She had on a skin-tight white T-shirt which was showing everything. On it in large black letters it said, "F*ck Republicans." (but with a "u" where I put the asterisk). I'm sure any Republicans that saw her just laughed as they know they are a minority here and don't take that sort of thing seriously. Only in Marin!!
