Hello Marc,
I've been to Cha-am recently. I like the place but I must admit that it's dead and can be boring if you're into nightlife. It's rather more a family destination.
Not too many tourists and most of them are from Norway.
There are many rooms available, starting at 200B/night. 500B is common for an airco room with fridge and satellite TV.
The beach is long, rather clean and quiet. No speed boats, no jetskis and not so many people. But the quality of the sand is low compared to what you can find in Koh Samet or Phuket for instance (we have here a rather yellow sand). Waves can be strong during low season.
You can rent a bicycle for 20B/hour or 100B/day. No problems to drive as there are not many cars in Cha-am and the speed is limited at 30 km/h on the beach road.
Weather is good almost all year in this part of Thailand.
Concerning nightlife, there are only a few bars and almost no bargirls.
I stayed there only 2 nights on my last trip but I would really like to spend more time there with my girlfriend as the place is good for relax and very inexpensive.
Regards,
Bobby
