Its a dead place. I would not bother if I was u, but just rent a MB or car and go see for yourself for a few hours outing and go back to HH.

Hello Marc,
I've been to Cha-am recently. I like the place but I must admit that it's dead and can be boring if you're into nightlife. It's rather more a family destination.
Not too many tourists and most of them are from Norway.
There are many rooms available, starting at 200B/night. 500B is common for an airco room with fridge and satellite TV.
The beach is long, rather clean and quiet. No speed boats, no jetskis and not so many people. But the quality of the sand is low compared to what you can find in Koh Samet or Phuket for instance (we have here a rather yellow sand). Waves can be strong during low season.
You can rent a bicycle for 20B/hour or 100B/day. No problems to drive as there are not many cars in Cha-am and the speed is limited at 30 km/h on the beach road.
Weather is good almost all year in this part of Thailand.
Concerning nightlife, there are only a few bars and almost no bargirls.
I stayed there only 2 nights on my last trip but I would really like to spend more time there with my girlfriend as the place is good for relax and very inexpensive.
Regards,
Bobby

CHA AM has a very small bar area 1 go go bar and maybe six bars i only went because of local election in huahin causing the bars to be closed there i would not recomend it for a holiday destination for anyone seeking nighlife and girls.

There are in fact a few beer bars but as you said, nothing really exciting. Youngest ladies there are in their late 30's. I've not seen the gogo bar. My gf told me that there is a bar complex but not within a walking distance from the beach road. I'll try to give it a look next time.
So I agree that it's not a holiday destination if you're looking for nightlife.

It might be a crappy place for a holiday if you're into the nightlife but, it's one of the greatest places to live if you like the laid back atmosphere with the beach thrown in.
I've lived here for a few years and "done" all the tourist places and some.....
Everything I've ever wanted is right here on my doorstep and believe me, compared with the Phukets,Pattayas and Islands. This place is cheap!
I know it's not everyones cup of tea, but give the place a few days and it sorts of grows on you.
Tony.

i thought the beach was too crowded but it is fun to see all the thai families on their "holidays" or beach days
also, all those places on that main road leading to the beaches with the bbq chicken and pigs are nice!!

uhmmm...the Queen....not the Queen Mother.

800B golf in Hua Hin / Cha am is a great deal, usually quite pricy by Thai standards.

I stayed at the Resort there with my ex-TG. I think it's called the Regent at Cha Am.

Yes it is:
http://www.regent-chaam.com/

I don't know much about "the life" there, but I did enjoy the resort. It was affordable and pretty plush.

I walked around the area around the resort and it's pretty dirt poor. I would think that you would do better closer to Hua Hin.

One good thing is that it's not very far from BKK. Only a couple of hours by car, if that.

Cha am

Ideal if you like quiet. A mate of mine lives there, been so for 2 years and seems to like it. He lives on a small estate up at the northern end near small docks/fishing area.He rents a really smart 2 bed bungalow for a pittance of a monthly rental.
Another mate had a bar in the town just off beach road but his TGF and her mates trashed it when he was back in UK so he sacked her and let a friend take over the lease. They just don't know when they are on to a good thing do they.
When I was there in Jan 2005 we went to bar area in Hua Hin for a few nights and got fairly decent entertainment around Hilton Hotel area. Had Gf with me so couldn't sample local delights, mai pen rai. She is history now so maybe in future
