hua hin
i made a report about this place last year and still stands, love the atmosphere!!
im staying in a backpacking bungalow on the beach, but has blasting a/c for 650 because i have my dog with me and didnt feel like running around looking for a place. also, jimbulljag was staying in a gorgeous room at the hilton and i just spunged off him for the facilities
anyways, i found that there is more nightlife than i found last year. the hilton has a disco thats pretty good, but very expensive. there are a bunch of karoke places open late 4-5am right in the center of town, can walk home.
i highly recommend hua hin, especially after finding the extra nightlife

Recently returned from Hua Hin and liked it. The night life isn’t huge but there is enough in my opinion. The atmosphere is good and friendly, never seen any trouble.
It is not Patong for night life, rooms are a bit more expensive than Patong or Pattaya but the beach is nice and you can swim in the water unlike Pattaya where I would not walk into the water far enough to pee in it.
I stayed at Goannas Guest house about 750 baht I think, aircon good size clean rooms and right in the night life and about a 5 minute walk to the beach. As the bars shut down at 1 other than what Marc said about the Hilton which also had a pretty good live band plus the karaoke places.
If you need to know how to get there from Bkk just ask if it hasn’t been explained before.
There is also a Hua Hin after dark web site if you were not aware.
Cheers

Just got back from Hua Hin. Very relaxing place, small nightlife but anoth bars to keep anyone going (All the bars are located close to each other). Only one nightclub which is at Hilton in centre of town. Beach is massive and clean. Lots of small restuarants. Great place for relaxing.

well, ill tell you one thing. when i left hua hin the whole trip took 9 hours total.
about 2 1/2 hours hua hin to bkk in taxi, wait about 2hrs for plane, 1 1/2hr flight and 40 minutes from airport to patong-cost about 12,000baht(taxi, flight for me, gf and my dog)
the taxi driver mentoned he wouldve drove me to phuket for 3500baht. takes 8-9hours, wouldve done that

hi bono,
think you will really like the hilton. the pool area is nice w/ a good happy hour for mixed drinks...a couple 2-4-1 long island ice teas sets the afternoon off right. The beach isn't Surin but comfortable w/ beers coming quickly.
There is a real good thai seafood place across the street (the green one) and a good late-nite noodle place just past the karoke bars.
As you might guess i had a great time in Hua Hin. enjoy!

If you're travelling light, the quickest, cheapest and easiest way to Huahin or Cha-am from Bangkok is to take the minibus from victory monument.
Please PM if you need more details.
Tony.

Gents
Have decided to add hua hin to my next trip to LOS (in December 2006) based on the comments here.
And also after having a read through the excellent HHAD: Nightlife and Entertainment guide, Hua Hin Information, Maps, Bars, Guesthouses, Accommodation, Property, Golf and more. site.
Who knows, might see some of you there

everybody has different likes and dislikes but i'm curious about what parts of your hilton stay were not to your liking. I thought the staff, facilities, room, pool, disco, breakfast were all very nice. Plus they had no problem with my friend's family coming over and hanging out.
just wondering.

The Hilton is right in the middle of all the action. Step out the door and there you are. The Marriott is about a half-mile away. It is a brisk ten minute walk to get to the main part of town. The Marriott is a beautiful hotel, but only about $5 cheaper than the Hilton. So the convenience of the Hilton location definitely warrants a higher rate, and is a better value, IMHO, since there really isn't much price difference(unless you liike to shop at Tesco, since the Marriott is a short stroll to the big mall where Tesco is at).
BTW, they are both rated 4 stars.
