Nong Khai and Beyond
I was curious if any b/m's have spent any time in Nong Khai. I'm sure it's not party central but are there nice places to stay, good food, or even a couple of bars. Any activities on the river?
I'd probably spend a day or so in vientiane as well. Can thai's cross the border w/ no problem?
Just wondering for now.

Belive you can take Teelak to Lao with out passport , no problem ... but what do i know .. this is just what i remember .. AFTER i got drunk to nite´

Thai girl can go to Laos for 3 days/2 nights with id card, just stop in one of the "visa agencies" before the friendship bridge- cost around 200 baht + another 150ish to go over the bridge. Farang is better to do the visa at the bridge.

thanks for that, i only took a girl over for the day, she just paid the bus fare over the bridge using her id card.
do you know the chances of taking the truck over the border, because gf says many lao come to the shopping centre in lao registered cars, but i heard it is a problem to take a thai registerd vehicle the other way. any ideas on the process.

I know it's possible (as long as it's not a rental) but don't know the process - if you ask on the forum at www.udonmap.com , I'm sure someone will know.

had conflicting stories from some expats there in udon, so i will ground work again in july, if it means taking the gfs father and mother across on a day trip, just to allow him to iron out any problems with border police. hopefully some will remember him from his time up there during the vietnam war era, or maybe their fathers will.

Jim,
Nong Khai is ok and there are some good hotels, Pantawee is one and prices vary for what type of room you want, just do a google search on Pantawee, (good food also), they have travel service also which is good, bars like The Meeting Place ok, the Danish Baker (excellent meatballs)
Have a good trip

Done a visa run to lao via nong khai
The wife and her mum and dad came with me
We left our pick up at the border and we all had to make a visa application along with thai id cards or passport
We couldnt take our car over but there were thai registered cars crossing over and plenty laos registered cars coming to and from los
There were also loads of laos girls crossing into thailand but they diddnt get it easy at the border patrol
