Question ko CHANG vs. ko SAMET ?????

hello BMs,
planning to stay in pattaya and then to check some island,
as ill not be comfortable with flying to phuket, samui or krabi, im thinking to visit some closer island resort...
i wonder which i should go for from pattaya, SAMET or CHANG ???
is it worth to spend/pay longer way to ko Chang or r they pretty much the same comparing ko Samet ???
how about in terms of budget ???

how long and how much does it take to get from pattaya to ferry points to these two places ?

will really appreciate any info ...
thanx !!!

I did a 3 night stay at Koh Samet on my last trip. The travel agent arranges pick up from your hotel, ferry crossing and accommodation and then the return journey. IIRC it was about 5,000 baht for the lot. The accommadtion was okay, but no running hot water.

Beach was excellent and a few places to eat. It is very quiet (which is what I wanted). Transfer time from Phuket to ferry is about 90 mins or less.

If you want 1, 2 or 3 nights away on a quiet island, then see the travel agents locally. You might be able to do it cheaper yorself, but I'd pay the going rate to the TA.

Yes, Pattaya, and that included a couple of pick ups on the way.

ferry time is about an hour, and you pay a few hundred baht when you arrive as it is a national park.

transfer from the ferry to land is by means of a barge type thing, and you get your feet wet on arrival and departure.

I've not been there, but when I did my investigations, I was told that there was more nightlife there. Travel from Patts is further and longer.

Nelsonone may be better qualified to give you an answer regarding both destinations.

Have fun

chang is bigger with more touristy type things and a better/more expensive choice of hotels restaurants.......and more activities

If you are going to either place and want company take a gal with you........

I like the laid back old style world of Samet best....but don't go around Thai holidays...the prices double and the joint is packed

Chang is a beautiful Island and well worth a visit, very mountainous with some breathtaking scenery and lookout points. Some of the water falls are sensational and on a steamy hot day, a shower under one really hits the spot.
I have been twice and each time stayed in the vicinity of White Sand Beach which is the best place for a bit of night life although Pattaya or even Patong it is not. First time I went was via mini bus and car ferry, that took around five hours door to door while the second occasion was much more civalised because a wealthy mate chartered a helicopter from the Royal Cliffe, that took about 40 minutes. Good idea to take your own companions because the ones on the Island are past their sell by date.

hello,
i went to both islands,
on ko samet i stayed at MALIBU GARDEN RESORT
from there we moved to ko chang to GRAND VILL RESORT on kai bae beach
i found ko chang even nicer due to mountain scenery that u see from the beach...
both islands have great beaches,
both r peacefull & quiet...
as BMs said, not really places to chase girls, if u have some, take her with u...
there is a great bar in ko chang kai-bae,
"Onew´S bar" owned by dutch guy who has been living there with his thai wife for 17 years and was the only one on whole island watching FORMULA 1 in Bahrain... as they dont cook there, we drank his beer & he was nice and let us bring the food from next door so we could watch F1 together...
if anyone goes there, say hello from F1 guys...

i can post some pics from both islands so u would have an idea...,
i just have to play with it & make it smaller, so moment please...

Yes, you certainly got around LDJ, that was your first trip to Los if I am not mistaken.

yes, u r right Pentire...
however, gathering info and eperience here on forum, i felt i knew almost everything...
just one discrepancy that we found several times in places where we were (and confirmed by many expats as well as experienced travellers!!!) -
we didnt really find thailand to be a "land of smile" in true sense of the word...
we met many nice people but also some really miserable ones, like anywhere in the world...
just to inform before BMs angrily start to fcuk me up that im wrong and ban me for another week , just look what i underlined + i travelled through south & north america, caribbean, the whole europe, middle east, persian gulf countries, north africa countries...
so i think im able to compare... sorry guys...

anyway, will be happy to come to thailand again and explore some other parts, meet new people & come back to pattaya ...
