Another Day in Isaan
Thai girlfriend just called from Korat. (11:00 PM Thai time)
"Emergency" at her home...her village is approximately 2 hours driving time, from Korat. (where she is residing, temporarily).
Her niece (6 year old), has been sick all day...and apparently worsening tonight.
They (family) are worried that the little girl may need to go to the hospital later. And, they have NO WAY of getting (her) into town tonight. (about 18km from village)
No taxi service, no ambulance service, only one other car in the village (farang)...and since he's not there, no one can drive it. So, "GF" takes off in the middle of the night (in her car), for a 2 hour drive, to standby for hospital shuttle service.
I'm not that surprised, for when she is (home), often times she runs the "elders" in the village, to the doctor...in the middle of the night.
Since it's her niece this time, obviously she's not hesitating for a moment. I hope the little girl is alright...a real "cutie", and a "sweetheart", as well.
(I know...I think also, what would they do otherwise? Maybe, just get sick and die, I suppose)
Just a posting, to demonstrate some of the difficulties encountered in the "up country" areas.
In (Thailand), It ain't no picnic...out in the country!
She's a cutie, as I said. (Here she's showing off her school work to me 5555)

A sorry piece of news Pablo. Obviously I hope the little girl recovers well.
It is situations like this that make you realise what a hard life it is in rural Thailand. A small medical centre in each village should be the norm, but LOS just isn't norm to us westerners

I trust (hope) that he's OK now, Paul.
Also, in Lee's (village) there are some cars. But in her "neighborhood", only one other.
The "village" is very rural, and very spread out.
Good luck to Ao and her son.

Sorry to hear about this Pablo. Hope Malee's niece is O'k.
And Paul and Pablo, if it is dengue fever, make sure they get adequate treatment and are well hydrated after treatment as the problem can come back.

What a little doll! Hope that it is nothing serious! Lucky that Lee is available to help out!

Hi Pablo, I hope Malee's niece health is improving in the meantime. It is always heart breaking when little kids are quite sick and there isn't really too much you can do.
In my G's village (in Isaan) there are quite a few cars around and I noticed usually the people help each other out in case of emergency.

Update....
GF went home, late at night as reported earlier.
The (sick) little girl, slept through the night, but had a bit of a fever.
Next morning...a drive to the doctor. Antibiotics and (fever) medication given, and the child responded favorably.
After two days of med's, she's up and running at full speed again. (kids bounce back fast, huh)
In that village, there are cars around. It's just to say that, in their "neighborhood", there are not many options. In an emergency, they could call someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, with a car. And most all the people (in the area) would help out, I'm sure. As I said, it's a big rural area...well spread out.
Just a bit hesitant to call on strangers, in the middle of the night...for a (maybe) emergency.
All's well, that ends well!
