Macau, anyone been there lately?

Okey, first I don't know if this is the right section for this thread, but it says "Isaan and other cities"

Have anyone been to Macau lately? Found an old thread from 2006 but rather than digging it up I started a new one.

Im going to Macau for 3 days during my trip this june/july and I was thinking if anyone had any good pointers what to see and where to go while there?
And also, what are the minimum bets at the blackjack tables in the Casino's? Here back home I think the minimum bet is 2€, never been to a Casino so...

Macau - places to go

Datsun,

Been living in Macau for nearly three and a half years now.

In terms of places to go and things to see:

For a bit of history/culture try Guia Hill, Senado square, A-ma temple, ruins of St. Pauls, taipa houses. The government's toursit website has useful information:

Macau Government Tourist Office

There is also a go-kart track, horse racing at the jockey club and even greyhounds at the canidrome.

A trip to Coloane island (the southern most of the 3 islands all linked by bridges that make up Macau) is worthwhile and there are good restaurants at the small beaches in Hac Sa (Fernandos) and Cheoc Van (Gondola). My favourite (although a bit rough and ready) is Nga Tim's which is outdoor in Coloane village near the Chapel of St. Francis Xavier (great seafood and bbq).

For a great feed in the evening, Aurora (Crown Hotel) and Copa Steakhouse (Sands Casino) are top of the range. In old taipa village, there is Petesquaria for great mid-priced Portuguese food and the local ex-pats pub (Old Taipa Tavern) is round the corner.

For night life there is the OTT and irish bar in Taipa and a nice bar in Aurora at Crown. Otherwise there are bars in the casinos like Lion Bar (MGM) which is currently popular or the bar strip in Macau by the water with places like MP3 and Moonwalkers. If you push on then DD2 in the AIA insurance building is popular at the weekend.

In terms of casinos, the new MGM in Macau and Venetian (between Taipa and Coloane) are both now open. Wynn's, Sands and the Grand Lisboa are also popular in Macau.

Not sure of the limits on blackjack tables as i don't gamble but usually there is a choice of areas with diferent minimum bets as low as HK$ 40.

I hope this helps!

Thumbs up

Nice one Paz, I am hoping to get across to Macau for a long weekend at some stage this year. Whilst I enjoy a gamble and will hit the tables I'm sure, I still have to keep the GF happy with a bit of sightseeing. Thanks for the info.
