Have any BMs been there? I meet a girl that wants me to go there and meet the family. Just wondering what it's like. I have been to Khorat,Undon Thani,Koan kean and a few other country places and found them all pretty much the same. Does Surin offer anything different?

My missus is from Surin. Since I haven't been to the other places you list, I can't compare, but when driving there from BKK, the scenery is more or less the same all
along the way, which is very beautiful.

It's touching the Cambodian border, so you might want to consider a tour over? For the rest, life's very slow, daily routines are the hammock, a couple of beers and
good food. So you really can switch off completely.

A bit of a shocker is just when you think you get the hang of some view Thai phrases, they all speak Khmer around you

There are a lot of Farang build houses around, strangely enough, I never bumped into one as of yet.

I'm going back end of this month again and are looking forward!

Thanks mate . Sounds just like the other places i have been in Isaan very relaxed. Only problem i meet this girl at a shop got her number and did'nt call her till i got home. Now we have been talking by phone almost everyday for the past 4 months. Now i am planning to meet her in 3 to 4 weeks. Just wondering if she don't show up is it worth hanging around or head back to the tourist destinations

mhh, I would feel a bit akward meeting a girl all the way up country with whom I never spend enough time beforehand. 4 month by phone, ok, but
still it doesn't give any indications of what's it like being together, you're not even sure if she shows up;-)

Maybe it's an option to get her a ticket out to other places and spend a week or two together?

Yeah she said she will meet me in BBK and stay a few days there before we go to her home. But i would like to have a few days on my own in BBK if you know what i mean

Oh well, if you're on a butterfly tour, then I would rule out a visit to a girls village really, don't play with fire ;-)

thaitan...what exactly would be your interest in seeing "her home"?

If, it's mainly a case of curiosity or just wanting to see another place in Thailand, I would suggest not going with her.

Her motivation, is most probably much different.

And by taking you to her home (meet the parents, etc.), she is putting herself up for real grief, if a "serious" relationship is not in the works. (loss of face etc)

BTW, was going to Surin her idea, or something you may have mentioned?
