The dvd's come from Maleysa, but I am not sure if they are so well exposed there.

A dvd is now 2 € a piece, hard to do any better!

If your buying in Patong, just make sure of the quality. Some of the cheaper blank DVD's have a problem later in the movie, like stuttering and total freezing. Have had numerous DVD's brought in Patong suffer from this. I look at as, what do I expect for B100.

For movie DVDs I recommend Patong, you should get for 100 baht/movie.

For computer software, I recommend KL.

You can find good quality DVDs in Malaysia, especially in KL. FYI, i regularly buy the latest titles at 'night markets' (best time 7-8 pm local time) at illegal temporary stalls...good quality and 3 DVDs for RM 20..about 200 baht. Most of the DVDs in Patong are actually 'copied' in Malaysia and smuggled to Thailand and so would be more expensive.

If the movie is out on DVD or been released on DVD as a screener the bootleg should be decent quality. If the movie is still in the theaters (In the US) than chances are any "DVD" is based on a videocam recording the movie so quality will be low.

Of course you can always just use a bittorrent client to donwload the movies for free over the Internet.

I recommend buying them in BKK over Patong as well... The quality in general seems to be much better although they may cost up to 120b in some places. I guaranteed good place with huge selections is Pantip Plaza. There are tons of shops selling just about any movie you could want...

I dont get the point with buying copied DVD's when you obviously have internet at home? Download the movies, invest the money in a DVD burner if you dont have one, i believe a DVD burner is around 40-50Euro or so now.

Most online DVD's are recompressed to DVD5 or lower though..

For quality I want a DVD9 minimum if viewing on big screen. Cant wait for HiDef..

You wont get that on brand new releases most of the time anyways Lil. Let me tell you a little about how the scene works

There are a bunch of different release groups, in these release groups it works like this. They have a few members to supply original material, in most cases the first release of movies is usually a *CAM* or a TS (Telesynch) Then they have a few coders to remove the security on games, dvd's or whatever. Then these releases goes to a dump (FTP site) where friends and couriers gets accounts. These couriers is then racing each other with these releases on other large site rings on most siterings there is a 3:1 ratio still i believe which mean they upload 1MB they can download 3MB but they do it mostly for fun anyways nowadays when the releases are so huge.

After these siterings these releases gets spread all over internet on such places like "torrent sites etc" These groups are operating mostly over mIRC.

A few very well known release groups for example games are "Reloaded, Deviance, FLT etc etc.

So with that said, the movies you download are the same movies as you buy in Malaysia, if you download them from the right place.
