The way I believe it to be, unless things have changed, is that 1 year visas can only be issued in Thailand. I was told the same things in Sydney that I didnt need to leave Thailand for the 90 day visa run, but soon found out the real story once I entered Thailand. Do not believe what overseas embassies tell you in regards to visa conditions.

You only get the extensions of you pay all the income taxes, employ that staff, have a WP, etc isnt it ??
Other wise its still the 90 day runs and with the costs of all the above running WELL above 4 times visa runs I cant see it making sense.

Thats how I understand it works as well, considered a B but went for the O as I can use the money saved on Income Tax etc for a good visa run and a little 3/4 day holiday. But LL the guy could have a legit business here and be paying these costs anyway??

Of course he could still have a biz with paid up capital, thai employees, taxes paid, all Thai employees on books and paying thier taxes and social, etc etc etc.. But if he is and isnt mentioning those crucial and expensive parts of it he makes the sound of getting a long stay no visa run visa much easier than it really is.
The fact is the WP is a pain in the ****.. And without the WP your still doing visa runs.

Hi ,
So happy with your 1 year visa???????
I got my non -B visa from Malaysia (1 year)
and got the WP from Thailand. as usual i need to do the 90 days exit because....
When you enter Thailand, the customs will only give you a 90 days entry permit even if you have a 1 year non -b visa ( multiple entry).
In this case, you still have to exit and reentry Thailand every 90 days and the WP will be 90 days following your entry card.
However there is a way around it...
1) You need to queue at a counter where the officer is sleepy and tired.
2) He must be a new staff who is not familiar with visas (non-b)
I happen to be one lucky jackpot winner. SO this officer gave me a entry permit which is 1 year long. ( no need to reentry for 1 year according to the stamp in my passport). And he cannot read english as the non -B visa, as it clearly says that i cannot enter after June 2007.Yet I still get a stamp to stay until dec 2007 !!!
Then I went to the WP office to renew my WP. and the officer gave me 1 year from the expiry of my previous wp date. Which is also longer then my non-B visa.
?????? in Short, I got a 1.x years WP on a 1 year non-B visa with a 1 year entry stamp..
non b expires on june 2007
entry permit allows me to stay until dec 2007
wp expires on sept 2007.
Welcome to amazing Thailand..

As mentioned by others, 1 year multiple entry is valid for one year and you can enter Thailand as often you want but you will only be granted 90 days for each entry.
If you want to stay one year without "visa runs" you must do a visa extension. (That can be done from a single entry B visa aswell)
I dont bother with that myself thought, spend the money I saved on small holidays instead.
Andytan, you are a lucky guy... Panned out fine for you. But I guess you cant leave Thailand either as you probably only will get 3 months next time if you leave/enter Thailand.

no problem for me to leave every 3 month . the only pain in the ass is the renewal of WP every 3 month ( previously) . I travel alot and had never stayed in Thailand for more than 2.5 month. most of the time, I exit Thailand in about 1 - 2 months for short vacations. leaving Thailand every time (alone without me wife) is a jail break 4 me..
Not that I don't love me wife, some times (many times) you just need to let the birds fly..
