Georgestown Update
Just did a Visa run to Penang (to get the supposidly 90 Day visa published about in the Andaman Post - does not exist - get your facts right )
Had some great Indian food in both The Kashmir restaurant and opposite The Passage Of India. Both places did great food and I was a happy camper.
The bar "22 Leith Street" is closed and up for sale - one of my old stomping grounds.
There is a good day time bistro on the corner of the Marchant Hotel which does happy hour drinks up to 2130.
The funniest thing was that the Soho Bar was infested with a bunch of Thai working girls and ladyboys. Some of them have worked Patong and one girl said she worked in downstairs in Tiger.
I spoke to their "works manager "who is an attractive LB who handles all their arrangements and travel papers. It is all good fun and gives the "staff" a chance to earn big bucks.

Yeah a buddy reported lots of TG's down there recently..
Not being nosey but surely you could get a non imm by hook or by crook crusty ?? Course it would cut down on the curry runs..

Just doing research
Technically and medically speaking the LB was male so it was no harm no foul.
I was doing this all in the name of research for future BMs on tour.
Yes Seft: - I do like to leave our little island and go somewhere for a change.I love those good Indian curries.

Although its not an indian thier chicken yellow curry is a nice korma like creamy curry with coconut milk.. mmmm...
Even a once a month curry night or something might be as good an excuse as any for a piss up and feed (I dont need much encouraging)..

Georgetown ten years ago was the reason I probably discovered Phuket! The Stokers had sussed out their bar, the Killicks thiers and also the Gollies, Chiefs and Greenies and us Pongo's (or Pongo!) were/was left to find what was left and that wasn't much................Sorry.........Speaking Crusties language here.
Malaysia is a lovely place to go and experience, it is beautiful.....But as a guest of Her Majesties Royal Navy it was suggested we find a suitable travel agents in Georgetown and suss out some the flights to Phuket.
"How does $49.95 return sound sir?"..............."I'll take it!".....The rest, as they say.......is history!

Another Visa Visit April 07
Flew in yesterday via KL on Air Asia.No problems and no delays.
This will hopefull be the last time for this route as I will try Firefly which starts it's direct service to Penang later this month.
Dumped my stuff in the hotel and headed to the bars.Soho still doing well and happy hour all night long (1 pint of Tiger Draught only 15.6 Rgt)
I checked out Slippery Senortias but the music was far too loud so got back to my bar stool in Soho.
Tonight is big ruby murry and beers evening.

What is the name of the pub just behind slippery sinoritas, (going away from it down the pedestrianised bit and then turning left at the end of the street) that is on 2 floors and gets quite busy. You can sit in or outside.
I used to go in there after eating in 32 Mansion Restaurant and then got into Slippery Senoritas to watch the girl band sing and then crawl home across the road to the E&O for some fish and chips on room service at about 3 am.
Great place, savour your time well becasue it goes all too fast.
I think I will try that Firefly when it gets up and running but will wait for you to do the saftey checks for us
Regards
Drew

Other pubs
I think you are talking about the Irish Bar that used to be there. It was called Shamrock but now has been sold .It is now called L A Galaxy and sells draught Bemish Stout and draught Tetleys too.I was empty when I was there but did play decent (read oldies) music.
If you are thinking about the next bar along down the side street then that was 22 Leith Street with its girls band.It has been closed down since January.

Hey Nicke,
Well their computers went down on Friday so nobody could get their visas as they couldn't print out any stickers until today (monday). I've now got my visa in hand and they stated that it's been VERY difficult to get 1 year visa's in Penang. They are recommending people go to KL but that still doesn't guarrantee anything as it's all case by case (as they put it)....
We'll see as I have friends going to KL to get 1 year next week.
