Singapore queries
I'm heading to Udon Thani via Singapore. Flight arrives SIN (main terminal) at 01.00 and departs for UT (from budget terminal) at 06.50. Last time i did this trip, i grabbed a taxi at SIN airport and went into Changi Village for a few hours for a beer and a feed before heading back for my flight.
I,ve never really taken a lot of notice of the layout at SIN, but just wondering if there are some bars or somewhere to kill a few hours in the airport, after you have cleared immigration and collected your baggage. I don't want to head straight across to the budget terminal and kill the hours there until i depart as it is a fairly boring place. Any suggestions?
Also, i will be spending a couple of days in Singapore on the way home and staying at the Orchard Hotel. Is a taxi the quickest and easiest way to get from the airport to the Orchard?

The Taxi ride to hotel is easiest, maybe not the quickest and not the cheapest. However as you will have luggage and the MRT (train) station nearest to your hotel is a fair walk, for ease and door to door service take a cab, cost around $18 sing. Orchard hotel is a good location and you have across the road, Muddy Murphys, Harrys Bar, The famous Orchard Towers (4 floors of wh@res) and a must try restaurant called Esmiradas tel# 67353476 food and wine is amazing and well priced skewers and garlic bread a must!!!
Regarding bars in terminal 1 there is a Bill Bentley pub upstairs, but considering your time scale i think going to changi village for a beer and food is a great idea. When i lived in SG i stayed at Tampines so i'd frequent CV quite often, great food and friendly locals. Don't spend 2 hours in budget terminal as its boring as fcuk!!!
Any more questions feel free to ask

Thanks for the info Masterwoodsman.
Yeh, CV was a good option, i thought i might just try and avoid carrying luggage around town this time by staying somewhere in terminal 1 until it was time to go to the budget terminal. I don't suppose they have luggage lockers at the budget terminal do they? I don't recall ever seeing any. That way i could grab a taxi and get him to wait at the budget terminal while i stored my luggage and then head into CV.
Thanks for the info on Esmiradas, saves me looking around for a decent place to eat, i'll give it a go for sure. And under $20 sing for a taxi to the Orchard, that'll do me. I couldn't get a cab to take me to the corner store for $20 down under.

They have a manned luggage room in Terminal 1, but pretty sure they dont have in budget terminal. Once you've cleared customs check luggage into left luggage room and get taxi to CV. Taxi back to Terminal 1, pick up luggage then go downstairs to catch free shuttle bus to budget terminal. Should give you a good hour in CV

Try Taxi to Clarke Quay or Boat Quay, plenty of bars, cafes etc that are open late.

Taking a cab is the easiest way, but if you're on a budget, then take the MRT.
I do take the MRT sometimes, not due to budget, just the experience.
Lots of bars near your hotel. Take the MRT elsewhere for other pubs at areas like Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, Riverside and the famous St James Powerstation.
Remember the MRT doesnt run after midnight, if i am not mistaken.
Cheers and enjoy.

I wouldn't advise taking luggage on the MRT, even during off peak hours, as the trains always seem to be more full than empty !! Feck knows how many people live in Pasir Ris and Tampines, I get off at Simei and there's still loads of people on the train !!

A friend of mine was staying in a hotel in Singapore just 2 nights. He just wanted to relax and the first night, the receptionist called him and asked him if he wanted some girls in the room with him. She said he could choose, hahaha
I thought prostitution was forbidden in Singapore..

As I remember there is a drop-off luggage depot on the right hand side of terminal 2 if you follow the signs towards the MRT. That is ideal for short trips into the city. I use it all the time if I have more than 4 hours lay over time in Singapore.
But I didn't take the route from Singapore to Udon Thani yet, as the schedule is lousy in connection to arriving from Amsterdam.

There's a luggage dropoff section at Terminal 1 I think. I's just beside the NTUC Fairprice supermarket and bus terminal.
So just ask around for the bus terminala nd u should see it. It's located at B1 or B2...

Looks like my old thread was resurected in time for a new query for my next trip in a fortnight.
This time i have a 7 hour layover in Singapore on my way home and i was thinking of getting a cheap hotel room as close to the airport as possible. Just somewhere to store my luggage while i head out for a feed, have a shower and maybe get a few hours sleep (or relaxing massage) before my flight home as i have to go straight to the office from the plane when i get home.
Does anyone know any reasonably priced hotels near the airport?
I've tried the transit hotel in the terminal but seeing as though i am arriving in SIN with Tiger and my flight to OZ is with Etihad who don't have early check in, i'm unable to access the hotel which is in the departure lounge.
Any help would be appreciated.
