Red face Losing camera in luggage at KLIA...please help

It happened when I arrived from Penang to KLIA (using basta@d MAS),,,
I put my camera in my bag then check in luggage in Penang, suddenly when I want to pick up my bag at luggage, I found out my bag zip was opened and when I check inside my camera was gone.
I straight away made a report to the lost and found counter, they ask me to declare the cost and promise to follow up me (that day was 5/11/07).
Until today even after I'd emailed them 2 days after the lost they never replied to me....what a poor service, I'm very dissapointed.

Have you ever been in yhis kind of siutation at KLIA or while using MAS...I really want to know how they handle this situation, will they compensate me (the most important thing) if not I swear I will post a complaint in all Malaysian newspaper.

do you have travel insurance for the period?....they may cover it

good luck with getting an airline to do something about this...it'd cost them a fortune for all of the rifeling that goes on in airports.....never make it easy for them....as IJ says carry all valuables with you at all times...do not check in anything you canot afford to lose

Don't think the airline will give you anything, only point their little finger at some small print in their terms of carriage that is their get out clause.

They will argue and say that how do you know it was one of their staff, could be the baggage handlers, not employed by them but the airport, could be someone in customs, nothing to do with them. Been there done it all before with my mates golf clubs.

Travel insurance is your only chance but make sure you get as much proof of reporting the loss to the airline, they should give you a sign certifcate of loss.

Airlines usually warn passengers bout valuables at check in.

Also why did you check in your bag without a lock?

I always hand carry my valuables.

Anyway good luck.

Cheers.

Electronic and Photographic, etc are generally excluded from all liabilities, even if the luggage is lost.

This is from one airline that I looked up:
Quote:
No liability for electronic equipment, photographic equipment, jewelry, cash, computer equipment, or other similar valuable items.
