Penang

Heading down to Penang to sort out my Non Imm B Visa over the weekend.

Can anyone recommend a decent cheap place to stay close to the bars?
Under 1000b with wi-fi would be good.

Hotel Mingood on Argyll Street is looking ok at the moment, esp as they seem to be geared to helping with Thai Visa's. Anyone got any feedback on them?

And any bars worth checking out?

Cool Hotel Mingood

Both myself and Simbo use the Mingood on Visa runs.It is centrally located and their day manager Arthur can assist with the whole Visa application.

It is an old Hotel but the rooms are clean and tidy and the bathrooms have good water pressure. They have security boxes at reception as well.

Main night time bar is the Soho.

I've only stayed at The Malayasian Hotel which is directly opposite The Soho Pub, which is rather convenient. I use the Indian guy for my visa that has the money exchange/visa service next to the swiss hotel on Cheulia street.

Always been good and never a problem. Enjoy your time there.

The Malaysian Hotel is normally around 770 baht a night which included breakfast for two. Rooms are ok, older style but not bad. Don't think they have wifi though

Arthur at the Mingood is great and will get things sorted for you. Free wifi available but you have to pay to use the internet in the lobby- weird. Cheap and cheerful with a great view across to the mainland from the roof garden.
