I know the subject of drugs on this forum is generally not spoken much of. However i would really appreciate some advice. I plan on going to the FMP on Apr 13. Now from what i have read and learned about Thailand , drugs just ain't worth it. I am quite happy just drinking as i dont need any other substance to make me happy especially if the risk is getting locked up. My question is directed to the so-called 'Shakes' that i often hear about back home in Oz. What is the legal stance on these drinks ? I have read somewhere that rather than take any drugs and run the risk of getting arrested one can have a 'Shake'. Am i wrong to assume that you wont get arrested for having a 'Shake' ? Can anybody help me out on this subject ? LivinLos ? I have read a number of your posts/replies and value greatly your opinions and knowledge on these matters .

Since I am not of the drug culture I have not got any idea of what you mean as a shake

They have them on Kho Phan Gan quite readily but the actual FMP itself is such a madhouse they are maybe not as obvious.. Lots of the more remote resorts round the island will make shroom shakes and omeletes (remember a day wasted is never a day wasted) without it being a big deal and it seems in general that the MiB dont seem especially troubled by it (though of course be aware).. Samui used to be that way but is more developed and controlled now I think..

At the northern end of the beach (Haad Rin sunrise side) theres a bar area raising up on wooden multi level platforms looking back up at the party zone.. They were making special shakes quite openly on the counter.. would blend in a chockie bar for a not too awful taste !!

Yeah I am forever dieing when I have em with my full breaker (hint.. Dont eat poisonous ones).. And the 'really crazy' bit is often the point..

The mushrooms used are called hed ki wua in Thailand (cowdung mushrooms) because they are growing quite readily in the wild on this substrate; they are the normal, well known Psilocybin shrooms you can get back in Europe grown "commercially", I would not be so sure that the amounts you could consume in a shake or a magic pizza could be uncontroled and therefore dangerous.

To my great surprise the Thais in Isaan did not even know of their psychoactive properties and thought me quite crazy suggesting that they could be prepared and/or consumed; so I never got the chance to try them.

I know they can be had quite readily on Koh Phangan; they are as illegal as any other drug in Thailand, so be careful.

Thats funny as they have the same translated name (cow shit shrooms) in local language on Bali, surely though they would be Hed Khi Kwai ?? .. Cant remember the Balinese name right now but the effective translation was the same..

Here in Thailand I have seen both Subcubensis as well as Copelandia but tried niether as timing wasnt right or I wasnt in a setting I was happy to get out of it in..

I must admit I was not sure exactly what kind seemed available on Bali but they were visually like Copelandia but slightly larger.. Copelandia being one of the more potent kind..

I used to drop into the Dr Pardues shops in Holland a fair bit and experminented with the spectrum available legally.. I think the UK went legal and then repealed the law or changed it back.. Out here they were made illegal in the late 80's..

Thanks guys , their illegality seems a bit ambiguous in the sense where you are able to buy a shake/omelette/pizza from a bar and yet still be breaking the law technically. Dont suppose playing the ignorant fool would cut it if in trouble with the law ( i only wanted a ....... and didnt know that i got .......instead?) Think i might just drink beer.

We bought some shakes from the place LiL is talking about and they tried to rip us off. We paid for them when we ordered them, but by the time they were ready to be picked up, they had "forgotten" we had paid. If it wasn't for a TG that had seen us pay, we would've been SOL. They're not cheap either.

I wasn't a big fan of them. Went back for seconds and still didn't get what I was expecting... Stick with the bucket (mekhong whiskey, red bull & coke), that will get you messed up good on its own!
My impression of the FMP was that the police were more lenient towards certain things.
But do not assume that will always be the case! Every month could be a different story depending on political pressure, tea-money, etc...

All it takes is for a bartender to have a chat with a friendly mib and if that particular mib is having an off day, they will come and have a chat with you. It is nothing like you are used to back home.

Kho Pan Gan is 'different' though in interpretation and enforcement on the ground.. Also I am unsure if psychodelics such as shrooms would trigger any drug test in the way that other chemicals would.. I also agree the FMP is over exposed as a rip off so dont expect that environment to be one where all is 'fair' is prices, amounts, or anything really.. Purely personally I dont think a big rave type place like that is ideal funny fungus territory anyway. Its the kind of thing I would much prefer to do privately or with close friends.. Much more suited to a day spent relaxing in a hammock and watching the sunset etc than in the middle of the chaos of a FMP.

I would say that the FMP is semi officially tolerated.. They know what happens and they know its what boosts the islands economy.. I see that environment as nothing or at least very little like Phuket... I would quite like to spend a week or so over on KPG outside of the main FMP time.. Think it would be a real relaxer of a place..

It wouldnt take much convincing to pursuade me they do grab a few people for a shakedown and also probably have a few plain clothes doing the curcuit..

But when you can sit in the resturant of one of the most visible and obvious dealers (older Thai woman) and she sells 100's or even 1000 within a couple of hours while at the same time the uniformed police sit in the front seats at her resturant / bar, you also have to assume there is tacit approval and knowledge..

Never been to an FMP, but it sounds like the last place i'd want to be whilst out of my tree on shrooms. Fire shows+hallucinating= welcome to hell
