Well I doubt you would be getting much of any 'villa' at that kind of price..
When renting a house.. Make sure that the meter is a gov meter and find out the price per unit if not and make sure that theres a good working one and its reading Kwh. Make a not of what it is when you move in.
Similarly water.. Make sure you have water service and get some assurance of what happens when water is scarce.. I hear Samui has worse water shortages than we do. Also ask if the house has its own storage tanks and how much they hold.. If water is cut of daily and you dont have your own tank then you have toilets that wont flush etc during the dry periods.. Nightmare..
Phone lines, does it have one, do you need one etc..
Other than that theres no taxes or charges like that.

LOL... I am betting those are daily rates !!
Also for that kind of holiday rental serviced apartment / villa with daily provisions etc then they take care of electric costs..
Sorry but you dont truly expect that kind of accomodation for prices as low as 100 GBP per month do you ?? Be a little realistic. Houses can be found for long term rental at 10k and up. But villa rental of that quality.. Forget it..

Sure.. but thats a single room.. Hardly 'villa'..
As stated you can find small houses at that price.. For long stay.. 'Villas' not really..
My buddy has a hotel in Lamai.. Depending on time of year he will do price like above.. Nice pool, good basic resturant, friendly brit run place, always nice chatty bunch at the bar..
EDIT :: This was replying to fist link.. Second is exactly as I said.. Nice clean small 1 bed house.. Lots of things like this can be found for 10k and up..

jimm,
Forget the term "villa". Not at your budget. Generally, add 10-20% of the monthly room rate for water and electricity. You can also check for places where water/elec is included in the monthly room rate.
Good luck.

Can get a tourist visa before you come (and a double entry also if you need it) a tourist visa is good for 60 days and at the end of that you can (usually) extend it 30 more days for 1900 baht and a passport picture etc.. Then you need to do a visa run..
So you can make 90 days at a stretch if you go to immigration once.

There is an immigration office on Samui, not at the airport. You'll find it when your there, its just south of Nathon

Yes as per my post.. For each entry (you get single entries doubles triples and very rarely quads) you get 60 days immediately stamped in on arrival.. Then at the end (before) go get another 30 days extension for 1900 baht.. This can be done to each entry.

Koh Samui information. Lamai, Chaweng, Bophut, Mae Nam and Big Buddha beaches.

Extend your visa
To extend a visa on Koh Samui, just go to the Koh Samui Immigration Office. It is located 2 km South of Nathon town on Thaweeratphakdee Road. If you need to go for a visa run, there are buses, minibuses and nowadays also flights by a seaplane (Coco Seaplanes) to Malaysia and Myanmar (Burma) via Ranong. Most of the travel agencies on the island, will offer these different alternatives for you.

slightly off subject
So it sounds like the internet prices for hotels are high, and negotable ? I'll be in Koh Sumai mid Feb., not peak season, but still busy. Do you guys think they'll be too busy to talk down the price ? I've done some searching here, and the prices people say they are paying are quite a bit less than the prices posted on Sawadee. Thanks in advance for any info.
PS, this place is great ! This is my 1st post, but I've been reading the forums, and yes IJ, I searched, LOL. The more I hear about it the more excited I am to get to LOS.
One last question, any chance that the soapy massage has made it to Koh Sumai ? If not I may have to make a diversion, that sounds like something I have to experience before I die.
Thanks all

I cant think of any soapy in Samui.. There may be but not that I have found..
As to prices.. Be aware that this thread is discussing long stay accomodations mostly.. Also hotels that are large enough to have got online or have booking systems are usually the larger ones (not necessarily better) and at high season I have always found a real crunch to finding nice accomodation on Samui.. What kind | |
