it's the same as the rest of LOS. there everywhere 100 baht each, the quality varies day to day, it's just hit and miss, if you buy a movie that's been out a few weeks then you'll find it will be a good copy but if it's a movie that was released at the cinema the day before you buy it then it will prob be a really bad video camera job, it's hit and miss really.

Bought a bunch from a shop at the northern end of the main drag in Chawang last time I was over. Older stuff, West wing, Friends etc etc was the same as an official release but my copies of Sin City and Willy Wonka were pretty crappy video camera on a movie screen jobs.

Find most common problem "dvd" locking up and can happen anywhere in the movie start middle or finish.
therefore if you watch it can only check for quality of picture and sound.

Some of them actually know what a DVDR - DVDrip etc is. So why not go ahead and ask them?
DVDR (DVD quality)
R5 (DVD quality - big size, same to you)
DVDrip (Compressed DVD, Good quality but no Dolby 5.1)
SVCD (Compressed but normally with good quality)
Anything other than that is not worth buying.
There are Cam, Telesynch etc aswell, its all crap.

I think that would confuse them.. But these days many are aware of DVD5 and DVD9 for mild compression v uncompressed (and I suspect many BM's and buyers wouldnt normally know a DVD5 rip from a DVD9 rip)..
I get the impression that they have a tiny price premium to the dealer (dual layer over single layer) hence why they now know.

When I was buying DVDs a lot were DVDRip sourced, even when the DVD9 ISO was available. That final reencoding back to MPEG-2 just kills the details. It can be hard to tell in the shop. Small crappy tvs with the settings adjusted to hide details.
