Lamai Nightlife
I have not been for a few years to Lamai but I will be over there next month for a week. I prefer Lamai to Chaweng, I must be getting old.
I used to hang about near the Bauhaus and the Siam Bar and grill.
Has it changed a lot and what are the best nightime venues in Lamai. There were a couple of restaurants and some beer bars the last time I was there.
Regards
Drew

hey Drew.........well there is a decent chunk of beer bars smack in the middle which to me are a bit rough and ready and now there are 3 nightclubs........all nearby Bauhaus area......
I enjoyed the company of a Bauhaus dancer one night......she was a sweet little soft centre........55555
For my money Lamai has better nightlife than Chaweng

I totaly agree with nelsonone. I like Lamai much more then Chaweng. The nightlife has not much changed over the last couple of years, but it's sufficient. I recon there are more beerbars then in the past. And the beach is perfect. Everything is within walking distance.... and you cannot say that from Chaweng.
Cheers,
Raval

Been thinking about doing a combined Ko Samui / Pattaya trip soon for a week or two. I stayed in Bophut (Samui) for 6 months in 2003, but I mostly preferred Chaweng for both nightlife and beach (south-end).
Thought the Reggae Pub featured some good (hired) DJs, and great atmosphere. Would’ve really liked to have something similar in Phuket. I also thought the Green Mango area was pretty decent. The nightclubs in Lamai I thought were kinda daft in comparison.
Think I’ll stick to Chaweng and then do the odd night down in Lamai. Provided (as you say) the nightlife has not changed much…

Nightlife in Lamai is much better in my opinion......Barhaus doesnt seem popular these days: the 'happening' places are Soho Bar, Fusion, SuperSub (altho less so now) and a new club just behind Fusion.
Fusion is on the main through road near McDonalds and opposite the lady boxing ring / beer bars. Soho is next to said beer bars and boxing ring, and the others are behing Fusion.
Top night out!!

I dont know what he means either........Lamai places were better. Chaweng was good for a night or so, but Lamai defo for the main base. Chaweng has more the clubs (ie green mango) for backpackers / couple-kinda tourists......Lamai is much better if you're interested in meeting hot thai girls!
Would like to check out q bar samui tho...........

What do I mean?
In my honest opinion the Reggae Pub in Chaweng was better than the clubs in Lamai (back in 2003 at least). Granted, we have a different opinion on this, but the meaning of my post should be clear enough for anyone to see.
And in case you were wondering, I liked Reggae Pub for the atmosphere, "open" location, the band, the music, and no shortage of girls either. The nightclubs I visited in Lamai were more "Tiger" style discos.

although i wasnt a big fan of Chaewang as a whole
i thought the nightlife was OK
i loved that Soi that Green Mango was on, where all the bars fall out into it late night
Reggae Pub was very good
and that late night spot in Chawaeng(half outside, half inside) was awesome

Yeah. They usually started with their "house-band" that played some reggae tunes, but when the DJ started, there were hardly any.
They also featured some overseas DJs, that played very good sets.

Women
Thanks for the info guys, now can you help me with one other thing please.
Where are the best looking women to be found in Lamai.
The last time I was there they were doted around (beer bars, the odd pub etc) but not in any particular one spot.
I dont like hardcore trance dance music (sorry but it just gives me a headache and you can't hear what you are talking to someone about, I must be getting old ), which I have heard is what Fusion plays, but just what I heard.
Regards
Drew

i Believe that both Fusion and Seed Plays the Dance alike trance music, great places anyway..
I dont think the best girls hang out a special place
But theres alot great FL´s
Its a great thing getting out there injoying the Nightlife and catch the girls as the night crawles on, why avoid that ?

Seed the music does get pretty hardcore.....I'd say for you to avoid it
Fusion is more house music so a bit more relaxed....defo worth a few drinks (it doesnt get going til about 2)
Maybe try Soho, thats a bit different.....
But if you dont like the clubs then I'd suggest the bars to find the girls....no specific ones, just have a wander around. Also try Barhaus bar- no girls work there but its a bit more chilled there and there should be FLs if thats what you're looking for.....

Thanks
I am looking forward to visiting again after so long not being on Samui, but I will also try Chawend and Bophut the Billobong as I have a friend who sings with his guitar there.
The women I find are more laid back and not so much in ure face.
Can wait, but if anyone has any advice or tips then please dont be shy.
Regards
Drew

I was last on Samui about 2 years ago, stayed at Chewang.... bad move!!!!!
Found myself heading down to Lamai most nights and the only thing that kept me in Che. was Reggae Pub!!! Even that had to give it a rest now and then as the FLs would not leave me alone!!!! Took a girl from there the first night of my trip, the others must have seen and thought I was fair game for the rest of my hols!!!
Can't remember ever being so popular in a night club before......... felt a bit like John Travolta in SNF!!!!!!
(it was low season OK!!!!!!)
