BGs and gogos

Hi guys,

I am heading to Koh Samui at the end of this month and I see heaps of info on Phuket but almost nothing on Koh Samui!

Can anyone recommend a decent go go bar? What is a normal bar fine? Can anyone recommend any girl friendly hotels?

Any help or info would be appreciated.

Smile Lamai Beach Bungalows

I was in Ko Samui in late April/early May. The main beach town is Chaweng. The best gogo bar is said to be the "Green Mango". It is easy to find, near the end of the main bar street on the left. I wasn't actually in it, but I saw it, and it was highly recommended by the guys at the bungalows I was at.

I stayed in Lamai, which has a great beach, although depending on where you stay, sometimes you have to walk down the beach to get to deep water for swimming. As you leave Lamai on the road to Chaweng, for about a 1/2 mile or more there are different bungalow places between the road and the beach. The great thing about them is that you can get a bugalow right on the beach, I mean you look out the window onto the ocean and nothing but sand between you and the water, just a stone's throw away. Very beautiful. Nothing like it in Patong. Just walk out the door for a swim, and you can walk down the beach to get into the town of Lamai also if you like. There are quite a few bungalow places with a wide variety from very cheap and funky to very nice and upscale. I ended up at a funky one, Noname Bungalows, just on a fluke, and was going to move on, but I liked the people there so much, tourists and family running it, that I ended up staying on. The cabana was really sweet, relaxing place to hang and good company there, great food from the mama's kitchen. Always a breeze blowing down the shoreline, which was important cause it was godawful hot in April. I don't recommend it unless you like primitive accomodations, but there are plenty of nicer bungalows along that strip.
The town of Lamai is small and quiet except for lots of bars and BGs. I really liked it, except that it has the worst-looking collection of BGs in LOS. Lots of 'em, but hard finding a really pretty one. I know I'm picky, but even so, it's nothing like Patong. The choice is better in Chaweng, still not quite as good as Phuket. You can stay there or bring the girl back to Lamai w/ you. Barfines are 200 in casual bar and 500 in gogo.
I think almost any hotel not too expensive is guest-friendly, but best to ask if they have joiner fee. I was a little worried at the place I stayed, because the crowd was so young, and mosty couples, a very "Khao San Road" type of vibe there, and Khao San Road in BKK has all non-friendly hotels. Also the few single guys never brought girls "home" w/ them. The 1st 2 nights, I brought BGs home late when no one was around for short-time. The 3rd night I met one that I really liked and so I figured screw it they can throw me out if they don't like it. So I showed up with her at the cabana for breakfast. The only ones who seemed shocked were the single guys whose eyes were bugging. They all wanted to know where I'd found her. She fit in with the Thai Mom, Pop and kids just as if she was one of the family! No problem. There is also a great diving school at Noname Bungalows called Hello Diving. Two young guys, a Canadian and a Korean run it.
So, if you want to be on the water in a beautiful, low key, relaxing setting, I highly recommend Lamai. But you might have to go to Chaweng to find a really hot-looking BG. The fare to Chaweng is 50 Baht in Pick-Up taxi, about a 20 minute drive. Good luck!

thanks

Thanks Jaybee appreciate the help! I will be staying near Chaweng and will be on my own so im a bit nervous.

Also my first trip to the LOS so Im trying to learn as much as I can from the veterans :-) before I go.

Does anyone know the quality of BGs in Chaweng firsthand? IF they are as bad as Lamai I might have to change my destination to Patong.

its all about patong

u cant beat patong for all round efforts, including the quality of women.so im going with jb,but are u gonna base your stay on ,only going with the quality of women?thats what u gotta ask yourself.Went on a round trip of southern thailand in march this year, had a great time visiting pattaya, koh samui, koh phangan, krabi and finally to patong (which was were i went on my 1st trip to LOS).so i had a fair mixture of the chilled side(lying on my hamock, sipping samsong ,playing cards etc..)and of the vibrant nightlife(which included chaweng and patong).i had a great time, going back in nov, i will be including koh samui on my travels and i may well stay in lamai this time.although patong is were i will stay for the majority.

I have been twice to Koh Samui with my Thai girlfriend from Phuket. So I did not pickup another girl in Koh Samui. But Indeed I also find the girls less attractive in Koh Samui then they are in Phuket. There are a lot more girls in Phuket so the odds are better in Phuket than in Koh S.

The Green Mango is not a gogobar, it's a sort of big discotheque, but you will find a lot of freelancing Thai girls inthere. It's a sort of open air discotheque only a roof and no walls. Around the Green Mango there are +/- 10 other night bars. It's a sort of marketplace...

Close to this place at the mainroad there's a seven eleven open 24/7, at 2 o'clock in the morning a lot of people over there and easy to pick up a girl as well.

Anothere nice place at night is "The reggae bar", this is not really a place where they play a lot of reggae, only until 23:30 there's a reggae band playing music. Afterwards it's a normal open air disco with all kinds of music (again only a roof). Overthere you can also find freelancers. Close to the reggae pub there are +/- 15 bars with girls. I was there in February and May.

if I compare Koh Samui to Patong/Phuket:

nightlife patong +
girls Patong +
food Patong + (Koh Samui more expensive)

relax Koh Samui +
beaches Koh Samui +

Smile Lamai - Minor league BGs

Steven Eleven sums it up pretty well. I went to Chaweng several times, but had BG with me, so I wasn't looking for that. We did drink and shoot pool in the ladybars there though. I saw a couple gogos, must have got the names mixed up, hard to remember.
Lamai is really nice place to, as Wylos put it, chill out, lie in the hammock, go swimming, play cards, read a book, etc., just relax. It is small and quiet compared to Patong or Chaweng.
There a heck of a lot of ladybars in Lamai, at least 6 dozen, I would guess. But it is like if you took all the girls from all the bars in Patong, divided them into two group based on looks, then took the the group that was not as good looking, and put them all in one small town, that is Lamai. There are a few of the better looking ones, but so few that someone else usually has already hooked up with them. Even so, it is not hard to find a cute one. They are not all ugly.
In Chaweng, I did go to the bars with my Lamai BG, who was a sweetheart, incidentally, and pretty, even if not impressive. So I did scope out the BGs there. They were a lot better than Lamai, not as good as Patong. That was my impression. In Patong there are a really lot of pretty girls, as well as lot of dogs, too.
Some guys go to Phuket, then when they are partied out, and have hooked up with a BG they really like, take her to Ko Samui to mellow out.

You can't beat the food in Patong, or the prices. Best in LOS. But it was really good in Ko Samui, too. In Lamai, maybe cost a little more, but very small difference. I was getting great steak dinners for 160 Baht. No free dessert, though. Also, Chaang was 50 Baht at the ladybars, which is cheaper than Patong. When I ate in Chaweng, it was more expensive.
I wouldn't worry about going alone. You might like Lamai. Very lowkey and friendly place. And the girls I went with were real happy with 1000 Baht long time. They never quoted any price to me, just say, "How much you pay?" Never any discussion of long time or short time. They all wanted to go 24/7. That was very refreshing change from Patong. Other years in Patong was usually 1000 OK or they don't ask for money but OK when you give them 1000 the next morning.
This year every single one of them I was with asked for more, and whined or said buy me phone card 350 Baht or give me tip, etc. When I would say 1000 Baht, they would say OK short time, but want more for long time. Some times they would give me a headache with all the negotiating.

I also do not mean they are ugly, only Patong girls are better looking.

I like Asian girls a lot, but in Koh Samui Chaweng there are also a lot of farang girls who get really pissed and are in for it as well.

Last year my neighbour in the hotel was an Israely in his mid forties who went
hunting every night... I guess he had 4 scandinavian girls + 1 english girl in one week time, and he did not really look like Beckham or Leonardo Di Caprio.

I'm not really a don Juan so I find it more easily to spend some bahts.

I agree than Farang girls look desperate at Koh Samui.
They are all dressed very short but even in night clubs they stay alone.

What they don't get, its than they are so so much trouble compare at the lovely and devoted thai girls

I will stay at Koh Samui one week at the end of April. I found some very good info in this thread from Jay Bee and others, written two years ago.
Any BM:s who can update the info about BG:s and gogos in the Chaweng/Lamai area?

Smui only has 2 gogo's both of which are a bit expensive and certainly not up to madness of BKK or pattaya gogo's (but then where is)..

Both are in Soi Green Mango with Dream girls being near the entrance to the soi on the left and GB lounge further down and round the bend..

Chaweng has lady bar sections out near the reggae bar and in a backstreety sort of section from the beach road leading there.. Also a fairly obvious 'massage' joint hooting and hollering in mini skirts (sure sign of extras on the menu) on the beach Rd also..

You will suss it all easy when you get there..
