Going to Samui for the first time on Thursday for 3 nights.
Anyone recommend a good 4/5 star on the beach at reasonable rates??
Has it gone quiet yet??

Dont have a recco, as I stay in a cheap place where I know the owners for years. But IMO avoid chaweng as a place to stay.. Its a night out but a mess in the rest of the time.. Lamai is my favorite mix..
Bee wants to get a few days Samui in before we do out UK hop.. Bit soon this week or I would ride over..

i prefer Lamai too and i was going to stay in this place, looks amazing
Villa Nalinnadda last minute offers from LateStays
but Lamai Wanta is probably 3 star right on the beach and a great location
Lamai Wanta Resort, Koh Samui hotels Thailand
i am a little bit of a hotel snob and even at 3 stars, i found the Wanta all you need

Thanks Mark26!
I was still on the lookout for an hotel on Lamai beach for the month of May. It'll be the Lamai Wanta. Has everything I need. Pool, close to beach, wifi, in room safe, looks nice and below 2000 bhat a night.
Hahaha, the Deluxe rooms even have a high quality matress. Quality will be tested, I can assure you!

Sent the request for Thurs*Sunday. Looks good, Ill let you know what its like if I get in.
Nallinnada seems to have some poor reviews regarding road noise so chose the other one and asked for one of the bungalows.

I'll let you know also what the lamai wanta resort is like. Can't book yet, cause I don't know the exact dates I'll be in Samui. Will book on the go, since it's low season now, that should be ok.

Would that be you by any strange coincidence???
If so a complimentary bottle of decent Shiraz, Merlot or (wild one here) 1st press Rioja would be really appreciated, as would a bouquet of flowers for the significant other..
If its not you then perhaps you could tell Mark 5555555555555555

Ask for Mark once you have checked into the hotel.
I've learned to not say so much in regards to hotels on the website here.
Don't want to get into too much trouble

few scattered showers, but nothing major for past few days.
Expecting a few good showers before the end of the month.
Great news for deal hunters, is there is much less people here right now
compared to last year.
Most seem to be staying in their rooms and only out for the sun and ocean.

Will do shorty trip report when I get the time.
In the meantime I would like to thank the BM who is a manager at the hotel for the superb service we received.
I would highly recommend the Buddy Hotel to anyone wanting a good hotel in a relaxing environment.
Good news is he is offering a 20% discount off his room rates to all BM's.
Will post full details when I've cleared it with Nicke.
Thank you.

i know i'm too late but i can recommend the samui natien ressort in chaweng, really nice place, great service and not too far away from the action while having a great beach and due to the fact that it's a smaller hotel a private and relaxed atmopshere.

i stayed there, bang in the centre nice pool, average rooms but you are on the beach, cheaper at other places and better food but i would stay again if going single but the staff are a bit sniffy.

a good cheap hotel is hathai, 16 rooms and a small pool and great food, gf and friendly owners, 800baht a night too just behind the boxing stadium so 5 min walk to the beach. Bonny hotel 800 baht but 2 mins to the beach and no pool but right in the middle of the action big rooms cleaned when you get up whatever time that may be, lovely owner and gf.

The lamai wanta was ok, clean rooms (but a bit "cold"with all those white empty walls).
I paid 1620 bhat per night for a deluxe room wich is lower than the 1800 on their website. My gf called to book a room the day before arriving, got quoted 1800, but just asking if they did no extra promotion was enough to lower the price to 1620 a night.
It's right on the beach and has a good swimming pool. Can't comment on the restaurant because we never ate there, the breakfast was limited to 3 choices on the menu + some extras but you had to pay more for them. Compared to other hotels in the same price range I've had better, with nice breakfast buffets.
Every room has free wifi.
Close to everything in Lamai. I've seen a guy bringing a lady so guests are allowed but I don't know if there is a joiners fee, since I was there with the missus.
Pool and restaurant staff are friendly, the staff in the lobby was indeed a bit sniffy.
Two times the power went down for about an hour, but that's not the hotels fault I think.
All in all a positive experience and I would go there again. I paid a fair price and can't complain about anything.
All in all Samui won me over or at least Lamai beach. Nice beaches, some shops, bars and restaurants and less hectic traffic then Patong wich made renting a motorbike a more pleasant experience. A nice laid back atmosphere, ideal to blow of steam for a week or so.
TIP : If you want to hear a good cover band go to the shamrock bar on thursdays and sundays. They have a band from the Philippines playing there. Not only did I find them very good, but the 2 girl lead singers are hot mak mak (especially the skinny one).
I found Lamai had a lot of beer bars (since being described as a more calm place). Here and there some nice ladies, but many older and less good looking ones. Most places had no or only a few punters, low season to the max.
Gave Patong a rest this trip and after visiting Samui this pattern could well be repeating itself.

Hi Guys,
Planned and booked to go to Lamai in June and am seeing some very negative reports about Lamai. Was there June last year and really enjoyed myself, has is really gone off that much in a year??? Yes the world has changed over the year with this financial crisis but has Lamai changed that much in a year?
I never liked Chewag much and preferred the layback Lamai scene.
Can anyone on the ground give me an update on the number of bars that are open verses closed?
I enjoyed the Lamai Night Plaza scene last year can some one let me know what is happening there....I think it will give me an idea of what Lamai is like now. Which bars are open and which are closed.?????
In the Lamai Plaza are the following bars open??
Bar Retro
Ku Koo Bar
Red Chilli Bar
Lovely Bar 2
Scooter 2
Appreciate any feedback on these bars.......it will give me a guage of what might be happenning there.
I suspect that a good time can still be had in Lamai however compared the "good ol days" it is somewhat slower. Approx how many ladies are working in the bars there now ...just a rough guess????
Surely the price for LT hasn't gone up to 2000b in a year!!? It was 1000-1500 last year? Good to hear BF is still 300b
Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Just back from a week in Lamai and I had a great time. Yes, its quiet there right now, but thats how I like it. Nearly all of the bars were open. I can't really answer about the specific ones that you mentioned as I never really remember their names. Spent most evenings drinking in the beer bars in the centre of town around the boxing ring.
Prices for beers generally around 80bt, even down to 50bt during the daytime for happy hours. The bar fines were all around 300bt, but this was 500bt on a Saturday due to the boxing being on. All the bars charged the same.
I found some real gems for BG's. Lots of choice and whilst there are some older ones around, there are also some real young cuties there too. A couple of nights I ended up in Fusion where there was a big choice of FL's around also. The only issue was that drinking in a small area of bars and changing girls every night had its issues and this was intensified a little as there was so much comptetition for the customers. I never spent more than 1,000bt for ST & 1,500bt for LT. Could probably have got away with 1,000bt for LT, but I like the girls to be happy.
I will be going away for 2 weeks later on in the summer, and will probably spend a week in Lamai and the same in Patong. I actually spent the last couple of days in Pattaya as I was leaving from Bangkok airport... which was a great way to top off the trip. But amazing how much cheaper it was in Lamai generally.

there really is so much competition for mongers in lamai at the moment and they are not hiding it either, downside is it's annoying! if you want another from a bar next door the day after. there is a real cutie at sexy lady bar behind macdonalds, she is a 20 year old stunner but knows the script so negotiate for 1500 with it being so quiet

Lamai is the Best!!
The weather is good at the mo thankfully as its been very iffy for a while now. Seems to be improving daily. Not a lot of punters around as its officially low season but there's more than I would have expected with the recession and all. Its not exactly a ghost town.... Managing to have lots of fun around the bars, plenty of girls to choose from. Bar of choice would be Tiger Bar in the boxing arena. Good selection of girls, very friendly & lots of fun!! For music & pool go to the Rolling Stone Bar.....PP
