British woman hit and run death
Woman killed in Thailand hit-and-run
The funeral service of a charity worker killed in a hit-and-run crash in Thailand, who grew up in Dobbs Weir and had lived in Ware, will take place on Saturday (May 23).
Mum-of-one Claire Cox, 42, and her boyfriend died instantly when a pick-up truck on the wrong side of the road ploughed into them while they were on holiday.
Two days earlier, Claire made a telephone call to her parents, Bill and Joan Clenshaw, saying she was planning to come home early. Tragically, she died on the very day she intended returning to Britain.
Her grieving family are struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. Her sister-in-law Chris Clenshaw said: “It was the first time she had been to Thailand; it was a very beautiful place she was staying in.
"A memorial was held for her there and the hotelier and dive instructor said she was really lovely and that she was happy, which is a comfort for us."
"She was lively, laughed a lot, was very caring; she was popular with her friends and knew a lot of people. She loved decorating and was always doing her house up; she was half-way through the sale of her house when this happened."
Saturday's (May 23) funeral service at St Mary’s Church in Little Hallingbury will be followed by burial in Sawbridgeworth.
Thai police are investigating the accident, which happened on the island of Koh Samui on April 29. Officers are still looking for the truck driver, who ran away after the collision.
Claire, who grew up in Dobbs Weir, worked at KKS in Hoddesdon and lived in Ware and Harlow before moving to Ipswich six years ago, leaves her son, Adam, aged 17.
She worked as a finance administrator for Mencap Ipswich and was involved in the Genesis Project, which aims to improve the lives of disabled people in Suffolk.
Nino Serritiello, chief executive officer of Mencap Ipswich, said: “Claire was a much-valued member of staff and close friend to many at Genesis. She will be missed greatly.”

would like to hear more updates about this.....
Many a time, i have had to skid to road side going round a corner, due to some retard passing on corners.
No regard for human lives on Samui, some will get mad at me, but the 3 years in Samui so far, mostly local people doing this.
Other deaths due to drunks, but again, the majority seem to be locals giving no regard to when they pass or who they hit.

It is, and very sad for her family and child. Not sure why we need a constant stream of these kind of posts on the forum? So I guess the news or general impression caused by these posts would seem depressing!
I don't know these people and if someone reading this does then please accept my apology for using this particular post for saying what I am going to say.
I am sure I could post the 'obits' from any holiday destination and it would read pretty much along the same lines. Normally a drowning a day in Cyprus etc etc.
Not wanting to trivialise that these poor people lost their lives but I am more one for posting about the 'happier' times and occurences about Thailand than the usual doom and gloom.
We know the driving standards in Thailand are generally of a poor standard both holiday maker unused to the local conditions, the occasional drunken expat and Thai alike. It's all over the forum like a rash and I am sure everyone who holidays or lives in Thailand knows it or is aware of it.
If someone feels the 'urge' to post these items to keep us all informed of every road accident. suicide, drowning etc then go ahead, I guess we don't have to read them. Your/my choice. For instance, how many Thai's died on the roads of Thailand today. I don't know, don't really want to know but I guess some did.
Again, I do feel for these peoples families but personally, can't vouch for others, just being honest with myself..........I'd rather not know!

Sorry if you are depressed today, D. And thanks for all the happy bits you post. Much appreciated.
But this forum, as in life, has got a place for the depressing stuff, and well as the light-hearted.
Knowing that people lose their lives on holiday in LOS is never going to stop me from going there. But it is a good thing for me to be reminded of the dangers, which are so easily forgotten when one is in a party mode, and having a great time in LOS. I can only thank God and count my lucky stars that I survived the last accident I was in there, a full-on crash with a speeding motorbike.
A word of remembrance for the less fortunate, and a word of condolence for their loved ones, is entirely appropriate in my opinion.
Sounds as though Claire Cox was surely the sort of person that made the world a better place, and the world will be a little worse off without her.

Good post JB and agree entirely that maybe we should be reminded and as I said, it is up to the forum member if he wishes to click and open that thread. It is very rare I am depressed JB and certainly not today. I can't afford the additional stress to be honest! I guess I can sort of deal with it in my own little way.
Also agree the world could use a few more of the Claire Cox types of person taken in this cowardly hit and run. She is definately worth a word of rememberance as you say.
But I was concerned that folk were posting they were depressed by these incidents and if I was to read about everything going on around me such as this everyday then I would get depressed I guess and Thailand for me is certianly not that.
Hope that makes sense?

my guess would be because this is phuket "info" every little one of these stories about driving accidents and bad happeneings just lets the new members coming on here and looking for info and clicking the revenue ads sort of get the message
every little bit helps and i think we forget some travelers are clueless at times

I'd noticed what appears to be an increase in the usual obituaries recently and considered asking you to put me up where you are currently working - seems safer!!!!
But, as people have posted above, it may act as a warning to newbies and a reminder to regular visitors.
Sad stories and condolences to the families of those lost.

In many places the sand seems to blow onto the roadways, making it very dangerous for MBs.
