Koh Samui / Koh Phangan first quarter 2005

Hi guys,

a real great messageboard down there Congratulations !
Iīm going to Koh Samui / Koh Phangan in march (06. - 23. that means no fullmoon ) I thought itīs a good idea to open a thread for all of you staying there from January 2005 till "end of the season" 2004 - 2005.

Best thanx to stevem, JayBee, steven eleven.... Their postings and other websites gave me a detailed overview over all topics concerning those two "kohs", but their info seems to be rather old. Iīll try to post a summary of what I got and link to some sites and postings (Iīm service oriented too ).

But first Iīll try to open a new thread. Some probs with registration cu

Hey,

Welcome to the board, It's a great source of information and generally a good ride most of the time. I will be going back to Thailand in June and will doing that exact thing. I've been to both Islands before and loved them. There is a full moon party each month, check the 2005 schedule online. Koh Samui is probably at the top of my list for Thai destinations, lovely and relaxing during the day with good activities then an active night life also it really has it all!!

Mark.

Where to go ?

Arriving at 10 pm in Chaweng I think its a good idea to stay 2 to 3 days in "Ever green Resort" close to mango area http://www.r24.org/samui.50megs.com/samui/evergreen/ (I didnīt find anything about "Chaweng Garden Beach" than the statement on whorist.com)

Has anybody been there? Itīs girl friendly? Or an alternative for appr. 1000 Baht (Bungalow/AC/double)?

This link seems to be updated http://www.asiatraveltips.com/BarsinKohSamui.shtml

And where are the current places to pick up a freelancer at midnight?
Any tipps to avoid picking up a ladyboy, men are often the most beautiful women...

Guys, a newbie needs your advice!

the fear of ladyboys is over stated IMHO just keep your eyes open and you should notice..

I made a post a day or two ago covering the gogo / beer bar / massage / disco / FL scene in this forum.. Should help.. Plenty of FL's in Soi Green Mango and Reggae Pub.. Lots of younger (farang) crowd also..

Boat accident

Itīs weird. A travel from Samui to Phangan is defintely on my plan. I read several times in serveral sources that itīs quite dangerous with the boats between Samui and Phangan if there are too many people aboard. Now it happened.

I hope the thai boat captains will pay a little bit more attention... at least the next two month

I hope too that nowbody of this great forum was affected !!!!!

Good Luck to all of you !!

Technical resources on Koh Samui / Koh Phangan

Some PMs and some E-Mails from obviously experienced guys in LOS (thanx LivinLOS and Bernd) gave me an overview about the Telcom/IT infrastructure on Koh Samui:

1) 99% of the girls (Phuket) have a mobile phone. First I planed to leave my triband (NOKAI 6310i) at home, but now Iīll take it along. Maybe it will be a good idea to buy a local prepaid card. Researches concerning this topic will follow.

2) For all owners of a digicam or MP3-Stick the following info maybe interesting: Look at www.isamui.com. Itīs located between Chaweng and Lamai. You can buy blanks to store your pics on CD/DVD, update your website, transfer MP3īs from a CD/DVD to your stick etc. Since I own a cam with the ability to record high quality movies on a 1 GB SD-Card this possibility is really interesting. Also it seems to make sens to bring some MP3 CD/DVDs with you to replace the musik on your stick unless you donīt own a 20 GB iPOD.

I didnīt expect things like that in LOS, because in the vacation areas of the place I live (Hamburg-Germany) they have no services like that for tourists (I must admit: as far as I know).

The offices look very nice. A quite interesting alternative if beeing fired...

Peter

BTW: Feel free to post here if YOU are staying on Samui/Phangan in 2005...

Most net cafes will do those services for you (larger / good ones anyway) and nearly all photo shops these days are up on digital printing etc..
