Koh Samui Information
Hi everyone. Listen i know there are a lot of similar questions on here but can anyone help me with the following:
I'm going to Samui on 10 June for 2 weeks.. I have been before but was very much on a shoestring a couple of years ago.. Can anyone recommend a good quality (clean, relaxed, sat TV, friendly etc etc) accommodation that has no issues with taking "friends" back home and that is near enough to the Chaweng action, but is also right near on the beach and has a quiet, chilled out atmosphere. All this and still not priced through the roof........ i have searched many websites but often get conflicting views between the advertising and the review write ups people give... I'm looking for someone with a personal recommendation....always safest...
Also since i booked my flight all i keep reading about is that the Samui girls are not up to the standard of elsewhere in LoS... i don't remember this to be the case...so have all the beautiful girls left the island or is it just people being too harsh??????
Any advice appreciated

I would say there are some good looking girls on Samui (in fact I saw a girl at new year that was simply out of this world.. total 10/10.. Not working girl though) but the standard is lower than Phuket which in turn is lower than BKK...
I always stay in my buddies hotel in Lamai.. Cant help you with Chaweng hotels sorry..

What's your buddies hotel called??? Maybe Lamai is the answer..
I was thinking Samui so i could maybe pop to Tao for a few days, and have a more relaxed environment... If i am interested in the BG scene should i just change my plans and get to Phuket......

er not even sure.. Mountain view Hotel or similar..
Out the back of Lamai with pool / bar / food in a small scale friendly place run by a Brit bunch.. Good people is why I always return..
Not particularly exclusive or impressive but cheap (fan room 250 - 400 AC perhaps 500 - 600 low season) clean and friendly, more importantly for me its a buddy so airport or pier pickup, Bike rental or simple loan, etc.. I would be going out drinking with them even if I didnt stay there...

I really like Lamai. Great beach! Great place to chill out! BUT, the sorriest looking collection of BGs there that you will ever want to see. Sure, there is one or two stunners, that every farang in town wants!
A good plan that you might consider would be to go to Phuket, find a pretty BG that you like, then take her on a holiday to Samui. She will love it for it! You will have a chance to relax and enjoy her, away from the hectic pace of the nightlife in Patong, where I rarely, if ever, got to bed before 5:00 AM.

Even better is the reaction from a BKK girl to being taken to the Islands... Phuket girls get to see beaches etc a lot and while they are happy I had a BKK girl FLIP at the prospect of a few days down on Samui.. Never stayed at a beach etc.. girl from the north, working in BKK.. No relax or enjoy time...
We did find some hot girls in Super Sub in Lamai and passable girls in Lamai (all very happy with 1k LT).. Only 7 and 8's or so though..

try this hotel but ask for new poolside room good spot
I stayed at the Lamai Inn 99 right on the beach great spot except for 200m walk at night down an unlit lane only time I have not felt safe at night in Thailand just needs a few floodlights and would be o/k.
Forgot to pick me up from airport, and room was 2 single beds and pretty basic at 1100baht per night.
Had a whinge about room and was offered a pool view room at 1200 baht (normally 1300 baht i thinks)this room was spot on king size bed, modern bathroom looked very new just next to good pool.
The Resturant at lamai inn was spot on good food ,great view ,right on the beach.
If I go to samui again would stay here but only in pool view room.
The beach is great deep water for swimming with shade trees available very clean sand and water.

I was there last year and stayed at the Chaweng Beach Resort. It is at the far end of Chaweng beach (furthest from the airport) The end near the airport is not as good because when the tide goes out there are rocks everywhere in the barren sea. The end with this resort the water doesnt go out as far and the sand is much nicer. Not as coarse. This place was 1000 baht per night for a bungalow. It had sat tv, nice clean bathroom, big king size bed etc.
At the time of year you are going though I would just get dropped of in the heart of Chaweng, book a cheap place for one night and then rent a scooter and go check out the hotels on your own. You are sure to get a better deal.
I did not like Lamai as good. The beach was nice, but the sand was very grainy, not soft like Chaweng. The water was clean but seemed deeper than Chaweng and of course it is not as busy and with a poor nightlife.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Ashley

I would recommend the Bill Resort in Lamai. It's conveniently located, located on a nice bit of beach and the service is excellent. Bringing a guest back isn't a problem either.
It's around 15 euro for a Hut with hot water, lovely bed and satelite tv.
Here's the link if you're interested...

Where to stay in Chaweng
Personally, I stay at Chaweng Gardens Beach Hotel right opposite the Green Mangoe Complex and on the beach, Big room with Cable , Fridge and air con for around 1000bht, plenty of other choice from 400 bht up. No lady problems may take ID (as they should). Stay a few days and negotiate 10%.
So you have all the action in Green Mangoe three minutes away and walk straight onto the beach where there are a few funky bars including the Ark bar to have a drink etc on their nice benches with Thai bolsters to lean on, very nice , plus they all have accommodation to check out if you are not happy at Chaweng gardens.
Can easily take a day trip to Lamai and check it out, I stayed at Lamai Inn for a few days liked hotel but Lamai beach dead as dodo compared with Chaweng. Seems to have a couple of nice clubs in Lamai but overall I found the atmosphere pretty dead compared with Chaweng.
