Music Festival

I guess many of you don’t read the Samui posts here, so thought I’d post this here as I would hate anyone to miss out if they are into good music and in Thailand now:

Last night the www.kohsamuimusicfestival.com began.

The line up includes UB40 and Jerry Lee Lewis, The Wailers (Ex-Bob Marlry), Zakiya ****** (Daughter of John Lee).

Last night was Ike Turner, and The Blues Brothers Band.

An awesome show, and well worth getting to the rest of the festival if you can….

yeah the ticket price of 7500 (standing style for a week !!!) or 22500 per person kind of put me off..

Me a buddy and my GF were planning on going over but once you add in VIP tickets + accomodation + spending money would look like 60 - 80k for me and her.. Seems a bit much personally..

Even the stand up 7500 price is a bit heavy IMHO.. You get 100's of bands at glastonbury for a ticket not far over that..

You can bye a daily ticket for 1000 at the gate – Personally I don’t think that is too bad to see some of the featured bands. I went to a big day out in Florida recently – cost three times that for the day, and not nearly as fun.

You can feel compelled to stand if you want to. Otherwise you may choose to sit in any number of seats available. Or even on the grass. Up to your imagination! The VIP area comprises of seats directly in front of the stage. The so called Standing area I prefer, as it has numerous little bars set up and its fun to wander between.
-Besides, if I want sit and listen to music, I generally put on a C.D.

The majority of people who come to Thailand spend money on accommodation, ect - so what is the difference?
It is no more expensive to do so in Samui than Phuket.

The way the website read was that the 7500 baht week or 1000 baht day prices were standing only.. Seemed the way they stated it was the seating setup was only for the VIP tickets which I still think (>550 USD) is a lot.. My mistake if there is alos a seated area there (didnt feel like standing all day concert style in this heat)..

As to accomodation I was talking personally (as noted)..

Might go with the wife for the weekend but i would'nt pay 1000bht to see the likes of Flow etc.
Jools Holland is the main attraction for me.

Wailers / UB40 / Jools / Blues Bros Band / Some of the big band and swing stuff..

Lots appealed.. I half regret it if the 7500 price is a good setup.. Probably just my missimpression from the website...

Tho having a 40 - 50k worth of unexpected bills in the last week 10 days has been a annoying if not unusual distraction..

koh samui music festival

The festival was tremendous. I went to almost every show every day. Some of the older bands really impressed me. I was completely blown away by Big Brother and The Holding Company. All the performances were great ezcept maybe Junkie Brewster which i found very amusing for the first 10 minutes, but after that just couldn't stand the noise. Jools Holland was a bit too Las Vegas show bandy for me. The best performances by far were from local acts Modern Dog and flow, who Big Brother and the Holding Company publically endorsed from the stage as the band who rocked the festival. The Wailers were just awesome as can be expected, the new singer fitting into Bob's shoes comfortably. UB40 was ok, a bit too pop for me. Sakiya ****** of course had everyone in the palm of her hand before she even opened her mouth. Zero Jam were really exciting musically. I hope next year the PR and advertising gets out so that people know about the festival and the crowds are complimentary to this truly world class event.
