Aussie invasion of Phuket,some translations

Visited my favourite massage establishment in Soi Kebsup the other day.My favourite massage girl and a couple of her friends(knowing i am an Aussie), wanted me to "translate some Australian" for them.Here is some of the terms they asked about,translated into Thai,as i best know it;

For those of you who may not be familiar with the good old Aussie slang.

1 Gidday mate.
(Sawasdee khrup) for male (Sawasdee ka) For female.

2 Buddy.
(khrup)

3 How the fcuk are ya?
(Sabaidee mai?)

4 Tah Mate
(Korp khun khrup)

5 No worries
(Mai pen rai)

I hope that makes life easier for some of the barowners/expats in Phuket.

Floppy, you shuold know "yah flamin galah " means 'ting tong' or 'khun baa'. ( Im certain it doesnt mean 'Nok mai' or burning bird !! 555

Im always surprised 'fair dinkum ', meaning 'jing jing' or 'nae nawn' is still in the lexicon.
'A schooner of New' ( New South Wales Residents only) equates to 'Bia , gaew nueng kup' , I think. And 'tucker' equals 'aharn'.
' Give it a miss' certainlly does not translate as 'Hai marn poo ying' ( give it a woman) but as 'mai oa kup', and is very useful on Nepalese suit sellers who dont speak Thai anyway.
As a matter of fact , if you are in Phuket and you want to learn more 'strine', ( Australian) approach these friendly blokes as they have now mastered the dialect....

Anyone want to give me the Thai version of that one? By the way Drongo was a racehorse, in a way as famous as Phar Lap (which means Lightning in Thai but I digress). My wife made the comment shortly after coming to Oz that she had learnt to speak English not Australian!

How about the Thai versions of these Australian phrases:

"What'd ya think this is "Bush Week"?"

"Ah..come on mate, fair suck of the sav (or sauce bottle)"

"Done like a dinner."

"I was as full as a goog, didn't know if I was arthur or martha"

"He's as miserable as a bandicoot!"

"Who do you barrack for?"

"He wouldn’t work in an iron lung."

"dry as a pommy's towel."

"haven't got a brass razoo"

and for us older blokes.... "a verandah over the toy shop". Enjoy.
