Any other here Oct 30th
I arrive in Patong Oct 30 and would like meet any of the posters. I expect to have a good idea about the night life and there is ample info on Island touring so the rest is to meet up with some drinking buddies. What time does this Mai Thai Bar open for business and when do the girls show up for their strool? I gather from the lack of responses that Halloween is not a holiday in Thailand. With the weather getting colder here I expect to really enjoy shorts at night.
I can't get much from that camera as my phone line is really old but it seems there are a few people there every night. One white guy and a girl who likes to flex her very big tits at the camera. Do I have to watch out for the Lady Boys at that bar? I am, as a new commer to anything like that, interested but not aroused buy the creatures. That bar with the ad on the internet newspaper has some well built up units.

the lady boys are pretty much always in soi katoey or crocodile, you wont see many if any in soi eric.dont worry about them just have a laugh with them, they are pretty cool and a good laugh, they wont do anything to you unless you initiate it(in my experience anyway).as for mai thai,it opens about 8-9,ladies norm start around 9 and thats pretty much standard for most bars.in bangla road i found the girls started a lot earlier but most are on salary so are not fineable til the bar shuts.i am trying desperately to get a week off in november so if i do i will be out there for 7 november til 16th.gotta lick my bosses butt a bit more yet tho.would go earlier but as i work for british airways and get my flights dirt cheap i have to look for when seats are avaiolable and due to the rugby world cup in australia its proving hard, still the 7th looks good,so fingers crossed.

Trip Extension?
If I extend my trip for a week and stay in Patong for that week I will be there to meet and greet a real person.
Due to the wonderful response on most of my questions I'll be saying good by to the distant (I'm told) Amari and will book via latestays into the Patong Bay Garden. I'm really torn between putting down roots for two weeks and going to some other resorts. It appears that there are two party towns Patong and Pattaya. Both locals have their devoted
followers. From what I see Patong is more of a tropical paradise and Pattaya is a much bigger sin-city mini Bangkok kinda place. This trip I've won is something about a big push from the Thai Toutist Board and payed into by many providers but highly focused on Phuket! I have some pre paid Island tourst and activities like shooting, which is a joke for me since my P/U has a gun rack, ya carry a snake gun on off trail walking and I bagged my deer for the season sitting on my proch with a hand gun. Shooting, the only bullets I'll be shooting are natural rounds and the only game will be two legged brown hair feline locals.
What do people think about staying on some of these island resorts. Forget about spelling but some near Phuket and some you must use an airline to reach? There is so much stuff online that I already feel I'm missing many things in what seems to be a place of passion for many.
I just rented the movie "The Beach" and saw the clip from that Bond movie. Both are very nice and if reachable from Phuket I'd love to go!

the beach is set on phi phi island and many places do tours there or you can do it much cheaper yourself getting the boat across from the port.speedboat trips take a couple of hours but get other sights in before getting to the beach, then onto phi phi don the bigger of the 2 islands.james bond island again is a tour that you can book anywhere.i cannot say much about this as this particular 1 i havent done,i hate james bond to the extent i have no inclination to see a location that the utter rubbish series of films was filmed upon.as for staying in phuket,if you can afford to move around to pattayya or koh samui then go for it,i would love to do both those areas and samui is only about 40 minute flight away and the flights are dirt cheap,i think you can fly to the military airport at pattaya and thats about an hour flight.when i go for an extended trip in april next year i intend to goto both these areas.i love phuket and patong in general but want to start discovering other places in thailand.thats not to say i will be abandoning patong, never.i will still be there for songrakan or the water festival in april and i still want to get out there in november.

Go Stuff
Great help. I can do what I want but have been known to like to sit a while when I get somewhere. Packing up and moving lots is a waste of time because entertainment seem to aboud in Patong. I agree about both Movies but the topography is specacular. I found out about some paddle board trip to the James Bond area and other stuff. Question. Am I going to be pressured by what is in the news as a big Mulsim group in the tourist areas of Phuket. I would have some questions about safety around that environment.

CNN is for suckers
Don't pay attention to what you hear in our news. Anytime American news channels talk about other parts of the world they over exxagerate the danger there is out there to Americans. I was in Batam, Indonesia during the Dec. 2000 christmas church bombings. CNN had my mom scared sh*tless because she new I was in Batam, and that was where one of these 'terrible bombings targeted at americans was.' I went and saw the actuall church that was 'bombed.' It was an incomplete church in the middle of nowhere, that someone threw a moltov cocktail against. I guess CNN must of had borrowed some writers from the NY Times staff.
Basically don't be an a$$, and you'll be fine. Maybe even take some time to learn about some of the Thai culture and customs before you go.
And, if you want to get real world news, watch BBC World.

Trips
TO PP
i went to phi phi island on a slow boat tour and was on phi phi island for about two hours. it was great just cruising to phi phi but you have to put lots of sun tan lotion on because i got burnt.
i also went to james bond island on a slow tour. it's was also great just a slow cruise to the island on a long boat. not much to see at james bond island but only there about 2 hours, but just a relaxing time getting there on both trips anyway.
if all you see at home is mountains then i would recommend a slow boat ride to one of these islands.
ther's lot's of places that advertise the trips and theres so many to choose from to lot's of different islands.

Much to do for tours
Seems as though there are so many things to do in Phuket. My tour has a number of offerings including a rain forrest walk. Oddly enought I'm most enthused to see a tropical rain forrest. My home offers mountains, a huge valley, a few big rivers and an amazing amount of wild life. I can't wait to experience Cobras as we have a huge Rattle Snake population and they are, as with Cobras, very important part of the ecosystem. I expect Phuket, as with the Sierra Mts., would be overrun with pesky varmits that are a primary food group for the nasty little snakes. I'm having a look at the many watersports offered. That would be the day ocean activities since there seems to be a good number of sexual humorists visiting. More stuff to do will be greatly apprecitated.
Looks like I'll be buying a number of beers at this Mai Tai spot!
