Visa Card ATM helpline number
In the last three months I have had my Visa Card blocked from use three times.Needless to say this can wreck any drinking plans.
I e-mailed Barclaycard and they gave me a phone number to ring. This phone number goes direct to a help desk which sorts out the problem. They go through the identification process and pass you on the their fraud desk. They then verify that your card is still in your possession and after that re-activate your card for use.
The third time was yesterday and I asked why I keep getting hit.The lady said that at present they are experiencing a higher than normal level of fraud from Thailand and that was why.My card was back on line within five minutes.
The phone number is + 44 1604614811 and you can ask the international operator to reverse charges. I didn't and paid 60 Baht for a quick call.

good service
thanks for that number i had to get it off the net last trip.
rather mao during a night out i went to the atm got some money and left behind the card.
did not notice for 3 days i had lost the card, but luckily i think the next person up to the atm, got rid of it into the rubbish.
no money was touched and the visa emergency number was very very helpful.
i will be keeping that number handy

I did an internet transaction last week, and within 5 minutes my phone was ringing and it was the fraud desk at my bank, checking on the transaction. Get this though, it was in New Zealand. I didnt realise that they were worried about transactions in New Zealand.

i think they monitor any transaction outside of your country of residence. I had regular problems when i first moved out here until i specified i would actually be living here.
You are supposed to inform them if you are going on holiday and wish to use the card. Pain in the butt but if it helps stop CC fraud then fair enough.

Most Credit Provides and Financial Institutions have software that alerts them of certain transactions and patterns which may be suspect. Thet will normally follow this up with a phone call, just confirming your in a certain place or away etc.
I myself, have had a call to my home while away to see if I was away or in a certain country, as I didn't let them know. Since I travel quite alot, they can add to the file/ record history and this sorts out any continuous phone calls.
I work in this industry and it's good to know that they are watching.

Always let my bank know when travelling overseas and interstate as it only takes am email.
have had my ATM card cancelled last time in bangkok but 3 cash withdrawals in short time, was not hard to get it back on line like 10 mins.
I think its good security by the banks at different times have had call about possible problems many times.
Withdrew $1500 on C/C one day up the coast and they called me within 5 mins to ask, was it me.
So I think its not only where but also different amounts from normal.
makes me feel a little safer !!

Better to be at the safe side and this would be a call i don´t feel disturbed. I only use my card for taking cash from ATM and in Germany i feel also everywhere safe. But would never pay in foreign countries with my card. And some special payments should also not appear at the bill

I followed this advice, giving leaving/return dates, had no problems with either my Visa or Mastercard during my stay.
Only used them at ATM's next to the official looking bank/currency exchange buildings on the basis if i cant trust them to not rip my card off, i cant trust anywhere
