If they say "yes" then I would suggest that they should know and are correct, but if you are still not sure, then take another card, e.g. a another credit card just in case. It may be that the connection to atm's in Thailand is not reliant on cirrus/maestro and they are connected using another system ??
Which bank are you talking about ?? Maybe if you post the name of the bank, someone else might have tried that bank's card and they could tell you whether they had been successful or not.

Just checked my Mastercard and it doesn't have the cirrus logo, but then I'm in the UK so it may be different but I doubt it.

There is a difference between Mastercard/Visa where you won't find a maestro or cirrus logo, and the bankcard from your local bank where you will find the logo. Tried again Visa and my local bankcard and the local (Belgian) bank gives a better rate, or should I say charges less as bankcosts per 10000Baht

I can use my debit card in most ATMs in Thailand. There is only the Maestro logo but I can use it on machines accepting Cirrus cards (as it's the same system). By the way, Mastercard is a credit card and has nothing to do with Cirrus.

No cirrus logo on my Visa either, and that worked everywhere.

Jim, read the posts before. You won't find any cirrus/maestro sign on Visa card. Only on your bankcard (credit card).

Surely the canadian bank can answer that one. If not I would imagine that a google search on PLUS might give you more infomation about their network.

What are you talking about? My visa card is both a credit card and a bankcard the last time i checked. If we are talking about the same thing that is. But ofcourse i wont find any maestro sign on my visa card as its different company's.

Are you taking money from an ATM with your Visa card in Sweden, or do you have another card like probably most of us?

Nope, only have 2 cards, and they are both Visa's for different accounts.

OK, you don't need maestro if both are visa cards. But you lose money on the exchange using them abroad.

This confusion seems to keep coming up.
A credit card is one that gives you credit and deducts that money from your account a month later (or keeps giving you credit paying only min balance but at high interest rates).
A debit card (sometimes called a bank card) deducts your money direct from your account when you spend the money. They dont give credit and have less protection than a credit card for fraudulent use.

I dont lose any money on exchange no. But there is a small withdrawal fee (About 1Euro) Same thing if i use another bank's ATM here in Sweden. (We have 2, different types "Minuten" and "Bankomaten" If i would use my card in a "Bankomat" it would cost me 1 Euro.
Why do you keep talking about Maestro? Can hardly use that for anything, why would i want that?
(1 of my visa's are debit card, and 1 of them have a credit attached, none of them have a cirrus logo, both works abroad.)

Maestro is basically the exact same as your debit card and has all the same benefits.

Maestro is the debit card from MasterCard. It provides PIN-based, direct cash access from your bank account at home as well as abroad.

I used to have a Maestro, couldnt realy use it for anything back then. Perhaps its better now, but back then i couldnt even use it in Denmark, and certainly not for online shopping, online services or anything like that.

PLUS works fine, I have PLUS on my Bangkok Bank ATM cards and it works fine in Malaysia, Singapore and Sweden without any problems.
In my experience, both VISA and Mastercard can be both debit and credit cards. If debit card they deduct your account, while credit may be an invoice with no interest upon certain days, e.g. 50 days on one of my cards. You can also decide to pay that debt later and then you have to pay interest. As far I am aware of, credit cards gives a very bad rate compared to banks, so I never tried that way to borrow money, just for payment and once the invoice come I always pay in full.
Plus/Visa/Visa Electron is the same system, Mastercard have their own similar brands; most works in ATMs but not for cash payment in shops.
Visa Electron will be rejected by most online websites for example, for that, you need a real VISA card.
I discovered another thing recently, as I got Siam Commercial Bank Card. SCB has way lower daily/weekly limit than my Bangkok Bank cards, something you may keep in mind. I cant withdraw 25,000 baht on my SCB card but is no problem with my Bangkok Bank cards in the same ATM. I also think 20,000 is the daily limit by SCB while Bangkok Bank allows a lot more, e.g. 100,000 baht.
