Exchange Rates

HSBC 60.89 baht to the GBP

Isn't this a bit low guys? I've only been going to los for the last couple of years but I'm sure the exchage rate has always been closer to 70 previously.

Yea it is down and has been for a few months now.
The UK is never a good place to change your money anyway. Just take what you need for a taxi and change the rest at the money exchangers in LOS
Todays rate with this site shows 67+baht to £ which is closer to the mark.

Thanks for the quick reply Dawsey, are you always that quick. I dont like taking to much cash, so much easier to carry your atm cards.

Anyone know what the money exchangers rates are at the moment?

For the current Thailand rates use the table on the Bangkok Bank site

I use this exchange rate table:

http://www.phuketbb.com/BuySell.aspx

I like it because it is an average of Thai banks, this means if you go to a bank and they are lower than the quote from this table it means that other banks are giving better rates.

There are still plenty of atm's in LOS also Philly and even with a small charge by your bank the rate you get is better than over here.

In the UK (not sure for other countries) but I would NEVER ever buy Baht in the UK. Either take a wad of cash out with you to Thailand and change it up, or use your ATM. The exchange rate at ATM's is very good.
If you are with Nationwide, you never get charged for using someone elses ATM even when abroad.

So thats what I did, I opened a NationWide bank account, and use an ATM.

Philly,

As I have an impending visit myself, I have been keeping an eye on the rates for the last month. It had taken quite a dip as the strength of the baht had risen. Last april (end of) was as high as 74 baht to the pound..quite a difference to now.

Anyway..all throughout this I have noticed while checking out all of the main thai bank's rates that the Siam Commercial has given a slighty better rate each and every time.

For instance..todays check..

Current Bangkok bank rate.
68.26 baht to the pound

Current Siam Bank rate
69.7575 baht to the pound.

They have been trying to keep it closer to the sliding US dollar.. With so much export to the US keeping in some band / parity is important to them..

For those who also want to keep upto date with the Exchange rates, I think this is one of the best websites

http://newsvote.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/f...elve_month.stm

As you can see upto 12 months

best exchange rate inside Thailand?

Guys --

When checking information on USD/Baht rate being applied inside Thailand on any given day, the rates vary widely. Bangkok Bank seems to have one of the lowest rates (i.e., fewer baht for 1 US Dollar). The Thai wife and I have accounts at BKK Bank, but we may change to one having consistently better exchange rates. Other sites, including the BKK Post, other banks and the Oanda.com site have higher rates, so I have the sense that BKK Bank is ripping us off. Any suggestions as to where is the best place to actually exchange the currency?

Thanks in advance.

Ralf
