Standard Life demutualisation

The UK life insurer Standard Life intends to privatise in the coming months. Ballot papers will be going to eligible members (like me ) in the next couple of weeks.

News reports are that the average windfall will be £1,700 and that more than half the members will get free shares worth at least £1,000. The individual's amount will depend upon the amount saved and the length of time you have been a member.

So how many UK people will be getting a windfall that could fund a flight and accommodation in LOS for a couple of weeks?

Nothing for me

I was short changed by about 7 grand on a policy that matured last year.

They blamed it on the performance of the stock market, and look where it is now.Almost Doubled in 3 years.

Maybe the directors will be in for a nice little windfall as well.

I will be firmly slamming the door in their faces the next time they come knocking on my door.

No such thing as a free lunch, they will have it back off you another way.

All the endowments have been cr@p in recent years. I've paid off my mortgage so after they demutualise I'll cash in the endowment or sell it on the open market. I've only kept it going the last couple of years in the hope of a windfall.

There are 2.4 million people in the UK due a windfall from this demutualisation.
