Visa-card scumming

Notice on monday that 1500 CAD had been taken out from RBC ROYAL BANK in Toronto without me being there Im not sure but I suspect someone in The E....... hotel,BKK because I had to leave my card when I check in friday. Otherwise it had to be 7 11 in Patong(cross the street when u go to Poppa Palace) Anyway I moved rest of the money from my Visa. Before I had time to talk to my bank they already know about this so I guess my money will come be back soon.

Mate , rule number one with credit cards when traveling is never ever let your card out of your sight.
A hotel wants you leave your credit card with them????? passport maybe????
Hope you have a good holiday

What are the Swedish rules on credit card fraud?
In the US it is max loss of $50 per collective set of events.
That is usually waived.

Worst case scenario you should not be out much.

I use my cards everywhere in the world and have never had a fraudulent charge.

I would imagine you get it back.. But thats debit cards, at least with a credit card you never have to claim it back, it simply doesnt get charged at the end of the month.

Did you use your debit bank card to charge something? I would only use it for banking. I use the credit card for everything else if no cash on hand.

I'll bet that made your heart flutter for a few minutes!

After my trip in the spring I noticed "I" had purchased a flight on Aeroflot airways to Moscow. A quick call to the cc company had it fixed straight away.

They sometimes put another keypad on top of the original one, so it wouldn't help to hide what your typing.

I suppose it is about card scimming!
Had my card copied one month ago, probably on a gas station on an automated pump terminal in Goetheborg.
One week later VISA called me and asked me if I was in Oslo?
I was, and they said my VISA account was beeing used in Spain right then!
My card was closed immediately, and I had to go over that weekend to order a new card, and check what had happened.
They had copied the card, but no pin code and no ID, so the money taken was returned also immediately to my account.
But it leaves you a little shaken!
Never had any problems in Thailand, but I always check ATM's before using them.
And I have worked service on ATM's for more than 20 years.
Also very careful with paying with cards at hotels and shops, preferring to use cash from ATM's.
But not expecting a gas station terminal to get to me!
