you learn young in Bournemouth. Can you get them in the pet shop?
Or the fishmonger as well.

Now,any chance of getting back to the serious issue here?

OK seriously, have you tried contacting any of the Phuket based charities? They may not be directly concerned with bird welfare, but they are bound to have contacts, and a publicity machine of sorts. They may be willing to help in your cause. You can find a list of charities here:-

The serious issue being the Eagles Iron Duke? OK...........

Well, you currently have people writing letters to the local press at your instigation, which is great and I hope has some influence. You also live on Phuket and know where the Eagles are, you could approach the owner and using an interpreter, try and explain to him the errors of his ways! Conduct a 'Black Op' one dark, moonless night (a la Animal Liberation Front) and liberate these Eagles? or, Pay the MIB to do that for you, shouldn't be much!!

If none of the above are viable options or indeed works at least try to ensure that during the remainder of thier lives in captivity (Which realistically, I personally think is going to be the case here, unless you come up with a new option for the owner to pay his rent, put food on the table, send his kids to school and buy fuel for his generator!) that these birds are at least healthy (Pay for a vet to visit them!) and live a reasonably happy life with regular visits from expats carrying fishy tidbits for them?

I also personally think these Eagles are beautiful creatures Iron Duke and should only be seen in thier natural state: Being amonst thier remaining family, soaring high, living a happy, long and fruitful life - A little like the human-being orphans of the Tsunami who Dawsey does a hell of a lot for.

I believe you can get seafood tidbits from a fishmongers Wellington!

Thanks, appreciate your concern also. There are no bird charities that I can find but will mention this to the Gibbon People, see if any joy there.
But I have to say that although I started this quest for avian justice I am nervous to be too directly involved after a friend of ours was recently shot not a million miles away from here and shortly after he had had dinner in our apartment.
I am no longer a daredevil Army Lieutenant, representing my regiment at 7 a sides, and generally as fit as any man could be; I am grungy and rehipped, and had hoped by raising the issue the press might take it up; still waiting for a younger man with ideas.

I don't doubt that for one minute Mr W, I am sure you will toil and endeavour to see, what I acknowledge to be a subject very close to your heart, to some kind of conclusion. I wish you the very best in that.

Although never quite making the full commissioned ranks, I understand that you will make a go of this. Sorry to hear about the hip. As the saying goes "Old Soldiers never die! We just smell as if we have!" Take good care Iron Duke and good luck and don't forget what the Duke himself had to say about British resilience and fortitude "I don't know what effect these men will have on the enemy, but by God they terrify me!" So go for it!

I wonder what Horatio Nelson would have had to say as he rowed his boat back to HMS Victory after a couple of nights at the MTB!

Ok I sent an email to Birdlife International, and have received this reply:-

"Thank you very much for contacting BirdLife International regarding this issue, and apologies for taking so long to reply. I am copying this reply to Bird Conservation Society of Thailand, who are the BirdLife Partner organisation for the country.

"I am not sure whether keeping captive birds in this way is illegal in Thailand, and whether BCST are able to take any action about the captive birds that you observed. However, I hope that they might be able to provide some more information, for example contact details for any organisation (the Tourism Ministry?) that you could write to and express your concern."

Fantastic, I now feel something may happen.
I myself have had no response or interest . At least you have got to the right organisation(hopes) to go forward with this issue. Fingers crossed. Thanks
