At the bottom of the page there are "Similar Threads" , maybe one of these can help answer some of your questions.

cheers Diz, exactly what i needed to cheer myself up this morning.
Boat, i have only one experience of fishing in LOS, find out what boat you are going to be on before you go, we booked through the hotel reception, leaflets showed nice big modern boats, cant remember the name of the outfit but when we arrived we were put onto a crock of shit, everyone was there for diving and cruises getting onto the big fancy boats and there we were on this floating bath tub, 3 of us and we caught 5 fish all day.
it is one of these things that while sitting at work i think i would love to do but then realize when i am doing it that it is not as much fun as i thought.

Theres a few levels of sport fishing..
At one end you have the el cheapo, taken out for a jolly and pull in some small tuna, stop off for a snorkel, home again at very cheap.. At the other end is the uber high end stuff (wahoo ?? or similar name) at multi 1000 USD per person..
I have a mate who does boat tours, I dont know what he charges but I would assume he is at the low end of the 'real' fishing market.. They take thier fishing seriously and have pulled in some large sailfish in thier trips out.. They go out west to the deep water shelf and its not just a drunken jolly on the water.. I am assuming it helps to get a group as they dont run tours all the time to just slot you in..
Will ask him how the costs break down next time I chat to him..

You could very likely keep the fish and the boat for that kind of money. Expect to get a full day on a boat for around 2000baht.

I've never said "hello Boat" before but hello Boat. Hello harbour, hello water, hello boat, hello fishy. (I fee like a twat).
Anyway mate...... I've just posted the same question and it looks like we might get a start. I still hope to be around when you're getting here so keep in touch.
By then i'll probably have a had a trip or two ouside so i might be able to give you precise info. I go on an annual trip off far north-west Australia after pelagics and other stuff so i think i know the experience you're looking for.

Hey Boat & DJ, it appears I will be making my first trip and will be arriving in Phuket on about March 17th or so and would love to do some game fishing. If anyone would be interested in sharing a charter (I'm traveling solo) that would be great.

But Wahoo charges up the wahoo I hear..
I will phone my buddy and get some rough prices.. He doesnt like to take too many people on a boat so that everyone gets some real fishing..
I (and my house mate if hes around) would do a game fishing day..

The Big Blues
Try The Big Blues, I fished already two times with them....new boat and fishing gear at very competitive rates compared to the market. Last week went to the Similan and had very good time if not for the weather!!
Have a look to www.thebigblues.com for more info
