Greetings from the Darkside
Hello Gentlemen, after browsing the Forum for the last week I am glad to be aboard. I wish I would have found this site before booking 3-weeks in Samui,
1-week in Pattaya (with no reservations). I think I will change it to 2-weeks in Samui, 1-week in Pattaya and 1-week in Patong. I spent 3-weeks in Samui this past October and had a great time. Stayed at the Baan Haad Ngam. Great hotel but was hardly ever there. Had a 1000 bht guest charge though and I did not like that. I will be staying at the Baan Hin Sai this time. Have not heard back from them on Guest charge. I can always register her since I will be with the Girl I met the last time there.I tried to upload some of her pictures but the file size exceeded the limits. Any suggestions on Hotel in Pattaya and Patong? I will be in LOS from February 10th to March 9th.

I can miss Pattaya because I have no reservations there. Any particular reason why?

Not Trying To Put You Off.
ummmm. its up 2 you ! as they say in the land of smiles
you don't have to miss it out all together just go there last as you will be going back to BKK
to get to USA, Pattaya is only a 2 hour taxi ride away from Bangkok
I was in pattaya July and august ,and I did not rate it for
a long stay but maybe 1 week would be ok for you
its very busy there and the beach is no where near as nice as patong ,
if I was you I would go samui for a week then go phuket/patong
for a week and if you really like it stay longer
if not jump on a flight to pattaya .
Maybe I just got bored with Pattaya
hope you have a great holiday anyway

Thanks for the advice DARBS. I will be meeting a friend in BKK on the 3rd of March. I will do Patong before that and see if I can talk him out of Pattaya.
I really enjoy the beaches to sleep off a long night

IJ, like I know you, you will never make it to the beach in Pattaya. I told before that after 5 days Pattaya I need Phuket for a rest.
If they let you lose in Pattaya Walking Street and the other Sois would have a new legend.

Thanks for the info guys. I was in Phuket in 1991. Stayed a week on Karon beach. never made it up your way. I was with a girl friend coming back from Nepal and India. Have been planning on coming back ever since. Got my feet sunburned so bad in Karon that I could hardly walk.

If you are thinking of going to Pattaya, then I suggest staying in Jomtien, which is about 3-4kms away and does have a better beach. You can get a songthaew (baht bus) from Pattaya to Jomtien for 10baht (I usually give 20baht because it's so cheap for the distance) and the ride takes about 10 minutes if that.
There's plenty of hotels in Jomtien and a lot of them do charge joiner fees, but there are Guest Houses as well, perhaps a look in the "Pattaya" section will give you more info. Personally, whenever I go to Pattaya, I stay at the Jomtien Garden hotel http://www.jomtiengarden.com/web/homepage.htm best to send them an email to ask about joiner fees, I have always had a girlfriend in tow when staying there, so I check her in as a guest. The staff are very discreet and a lot better than any other hotel I've stayed at in Pattaya/Jomtien.
Good luck and welcome to the board.

Thanks Dizbuster. Just checked out the web site. Looks good. How much for a night? I know the Girl in Samui will be unhappy I am only going to be staying 2-weeks. I just won't let her know I am going to another Island. The drama that will ensue will not be worth the honesty.

Best to shop around for quotes, just go to Google and type in the hotel name and you'll get lots of online agencies with competitive prices. You could also try using some of the sites advertised on the forum here - see "Thailand Hotels" link at the top of the page.

I have never seen grey sand, but that's the color in Pattaya. The water should be blue, not grey.

I suggest you miss out Pattaya and have an extra week in Patong because Pattaya is a dump and the beaches are crap....sea is polluted. If you've never been to Patong before, you will wish you'd spent you're whole holiday here and probably won't go anywhere else again :-)

Leaning towards Patong
Thank's LOS. I am leaning towards Patong because I like the beaches there. My friend who is flying in for a week to meet me wants Pattaya because there are more women and more nude shows( to check out what you are getting) He thinks because we are going during high season we have better odds with more women in Pattaya.
I think high season will cancel that out and be no different than Patong, but I have never been to LOS during high season. Is there a major movement toward the beaches by the thai women during high season like they do for Mardi Gras in Brazil?

The real answer to your question is that it all depends on what you want.
Phuket has a small (but large enough bar/p4p scene) however it is great for beach life and has a very friendly/chilled atmospere.
Pattaya has beaches that you simply would not entertain although Jomtien is just about acceptable but nothing ''pretty''
Pattaya is solely about the P4P nightlife, opinion is very split on this board but I feel most Bm's here prefer the laid back atmosphere and beauty of phuket.
Pattaya for me is the daddy of P4P nightlife and always will be, at a time when the BKK scene was reduced to a pitiful shadow of it's former glory days (due to police crackdowns on nudity/shows/closing times), Pattaya is kinda like the last untouched P4P heaven.
It is not somewhere I would advise you to go if you are not too interested in a ''full on/ in your face'' scene. It can also get a bit much after a while so 1 week is definately long enough.
It is certainly worth a look if you want to see some real sleaze, something you won't find in Koh Samui/Phuket/Bangkok.

Thanks for your opinion BB. I agree with you and from searching other threads
that seems to be the concenus. I prefer the laid back scene. I am not into the "in your face" scene but have heard good things about the beauty of Pattaya Girls. I have also heard some negatives on the Samui BG's but I saw a lot of stunners their. Especially this young blond in Dream Girls Go Go. Maybe that was due to it being low season October.

the sand on australias beaches is the best i have seen, including most of the pacific islands i have visited.
think the grey sand and black is from volcanic areas ?
find patong much better than samui.

I know that the "black sand" is volcanic. the last time I was in Pattaya, the "grey" sand was just filthy. Refuse from the ocean, crap from the construction, and who knows what else.
I have a friend that lives down the road from Pattaya, he says they is no way he would ever put his foot in the water in Pattaya. He told me that if he wanted to go to the beach he would take a ferry to one of the islands, he was to afraid of catching something from the water in Pattaya. Again, just one person opinion.
note to self----book a room with a pool.

I agree with you aussie dollar. I have been to Australia fishing and diving and the beaches were beautiful. So were the women on them. I lived in Hawaii for 8 years and the black sand beaches were black due to continuous volcanic activity not grey. Grey usually comes from muck on the bottom.
