You can get global roaming talk to your service provider it gets expensive though.

If you're just talking about using your current phone in LOS just get a thai sim card and ph. No. over there in you're laughing that's what most of us do.

And a big walet i gue´s .. it´s expensive to let people call from your home land to you in LOS or any other country as well i gues´ .. you have to pay the diffrent between borders !
A few ST/LT is gone in no time when mum calls to hear about your escapades in the sun

I change to a thai sim-card first thing when i get there !

Mom: Hi, son. Having fun on your holiday?

CS: It's great, Mom. Having a ball!

Mom: How's the beaches? Crowded?

CS: Beaches? What beaches? Do they have beaches here?

Mom: What are you doing for fun? Look at temples, elephants?

CS: Well, mum, to tell you the truth, temples bore me, rode the elephants last year. Had a great ST yesterday afternoon, though, and my LT last night was f*cking incredible.

Mom: Son, don't use that kind of language with me! Didn't I teach you better than that!!

CS: Whoops, sorry, Mum, excuse my French, please!

Mom: What is this ST, LT, you are talking bout?

CS: Hello, what's that? Can't make it out mum. Terrible reception here(makes fake static noises into the phone), think I'm losing the connection. Say Hi to dad, see you next month. By-y-y-y-y-e!!!

Roaming doesnt workout as all that expensive as people make it out to be. It all depends on whether or not people need to be able to contact you where ever you are. If your also making stops enroute like Singapore, then roaming still enables you to use your phone.

Also depends largely on whether or not your phone is locked to network, like is the norm here in Oz. This is where the unlocking comes in.

Take a second phone with you and buy a SIM card from AIS. You can see the unanswered calls on your roaming phone and call them back on your Thai phone. The most inexpensive way.

Receiving Roaming calls is expensive, about 2 Euro or 3 USD per minute, paid by you.

You can buy a good used phone for 2000 Baht. This is paid with one 15-minute roaming call with your mom.

You just have to make sure that your mobile is not SIM-locked to your operators SIM, if not you just buy a new SIM, a pre-paid one in Thailand. 123 has very cheap call rates to Europa I think. Then you can just put a call forward on your home SIM to your answering machine telling people your Thai number end of story.
As far as I recall the Thai SIM is 300 Bath and then you can just refill credit for it, as you need it.

Cool

Why do you need a phone with you on holiday ?? Tell your friends to use email and go to an internet cafe each day. Taking a phone with you means having to keep it safe at all times so it's not stolen. If you want to make calls, again, go to an internet cafe and use their phones, but remember to shop around as prices do vary greatly, I paid 10baht a minute for a call to the UK when I was over there in November.

I always leave mine at home, why worry about what's going on back home - enjoy your holiday

Cool

OK, my suggestion then would be for you to take an old phone if possible, i.e. one which you wouldn't mind too much if you did lose it. Leave your current SIM card at home and then when you get to LOS, go to a Phone shop and get a "pay as you go" card which will aloow people to call your mum. Then, if she needs to make calls, take her to an internet cafe and get her to make her calls there, but as I said, shop around for cheaper call rates.

Good luck

Sorry Diz old boy but I'd have to disagree on the phone, best thing for keeping in touch with girls, you can always ring them later if you're not hooked up or during the day etc.

Get one with a camera or you'll have problems remembering all the Noks, Fa's and Oh's.

I would shop around, you might find a better deal at 7-11, or one of the "mall" cell phone shops. You might find that one network will not work where you are. If it was me, I would hit one of the cell phone shops and have them set you up. Try before you leave.
