Probably because you didn't go to the clinic next door.

I have eaten there...because I had to go to the clinic next door

Had some excellent meals at a Thai restaurant called "Dang" on Rat-u-thit road.

A Thai girl took me there for lunch on Day 1 of my trip

Opposite the PS Hotel (ie. near C&N Hotel), about 100 metres north of Bangla Road.

Busy eatery, friendly and fast service. Phad Thais for 50Baht (very nice!!), fried rice with chicken for 40 baht, most other dishes around 60-80 Baht mark. Nice refreshing juices too - for 30 Baht each.

I'm more inclined to agree with Stevem..........if you have had a home cooked meal by a good Thai cook......in Steve's case his wife.........you will remember it much more than any of the local Patong restaurants.

Personally I quite like Sabai Sabai.........but I have had much better meals cooked by the Captains wives on dive boats.......... and the best Thai meals I have ever had have been in King St Newtown Sydney Aus.........I think that this is due to superiority of ingredients and authentic Thai cooks...........plus there is probably as many authentic Thai restaurants in Newtown as there are in Patong......so you've gotta be good to compete!

We went the other day having a huge feast of a meal (raw prawns starter, Oysters, Jim Jum, Deep Fried Seafood in batter (calamari style) and some other main course dish.. Including large Bottle of beer and some cokes I think the total bill was 400 baht for 2 people and was so much that I couldnt eat it all..

Value just means eating Thai style from roadside resturants and places.. Phad Thai or Gwei Teow can be delicious in the right stall.. As can simple things like Duck Rice.. Look for the places that are busy with Thais eating there..

Of course best resturant (a topic dscussed many times that can be searched) can mean diffferent things to different people.. How important is price v taste v ambience v Airco etc.. Some people dont like platic chairs and outdoors and want an AC place with cloth napikins.. 'Best' means many things to many people..

now thats value for your money, where can i find these 2 places sef?

Dont know the name of the gaff, but it was part of a big open market, way past Christins.
Opensided buffet place, seafood/beef/pork+veg+many spices, 100baht each, (cooked in braziers on the table courtesy of the gf)... she must have eaten for a solid hour! Damn good meal.
I thought the BBQ lobster from the big restaurant at the end of the road near C&N Hotel was pretty bland, and expensive. though to be fair, thats the first time i've eaten lobster, so perhaps its supposed to taste like that*

*Disclaimer: a childhood of transport cafe meals, army "cuisine" and a recent stapedectomy (with resulting nerve damage on oneside of the tongue) does mean my taste buds have been hit pretty hard over the years

I just have to relate this in this thread...

My hubby, son and I took a tuk tuk up Hasip Pee Road (steep road up the back of Patong Hills) to a restaurant called "Tavern on the hill"...we had the best Phad Thai that we had ever encountered anywhere! Would go up there again just for that...but we'd have to have a beer across the road in a little place with the most spectacular view over Patong...we just went across after lunch to take a photo but too full to have a beer...but next time that'll be a must!

The tuk tuk ride was a bit of an experience though LOL...it had no gearbox and no diff...had trouble getting up and even more trouble getting down with much grinding and reving the engine in low gear to try to facilitate the failing brakes!!! A tad scary but we made it!!! LOL

Tavern on the Hill does good food in general.. Used to be a common Sunday afternoon place to take a couple of families with kids as they do a really good roast..

Only thing I hate is the red wine is kept in the fridge !!!
