sports bars?
Greetings all BM'S and BMF"s also. New BM here from New Mexico in what was once the UNITED States. About to make my 3rd trip to LOS but 1st time in Phuket and Patong. Gonna stay till I feel like leaving. Already worked this out with the boss!!! As some have guessed from the ID I like hockey. With the winter olympics coming up, where can one sit back and watch the games?
Cheers to everyone. See you at the Mai Tai

Judging by the number of Scandinavians and Canadians on this board I can't be alone here.

All bars shows sports, you'll just have to find the one that appeals to you. All depends on what times events are broadcasted refer to www.ubctv.com

Thanks I'll check it out. And for the non-hockey lovers... a crosscheck is taking your stick in 2 hands and forcefully shoving your opponent, hopefully to the ice or into the glass. Great fun really.
Let it be known that my interest in hockey will in no way deter me from the serious business of bars and the associated BG'S.

crosscheck,
you might be out of luck. i have never seen ice hockey advertised. they have nba,nfl and mlb, but have never heard anything about hockey.
you might get some olympic events on tv, but hockey might be not televised.
ill tell you, if i ever moved to LOS for a length of time, i would pay an arm and a leg to get satelite showing pats, red sox, and celtics

Hi crosscheck,
Always refer to the quote above the post you are reading.
Then you won't be confused about what the poster is answering.
In Mavs case he was referring to the "poor cnut on the receiving end of the hockey shove"

Can anyone tell me why they take their gloves off before punching the opponent in the helmet, or are they just one puck short of a full pack?

on the contrary, it's an invitation to do something about it if you don't like it.

Hey Tarzan. Why the provacative statements? I was enjoying thinking about the great time I was going to have in Thailand with what sounded like a great group of mellow guys. I guess I am now supposed to fire back bad words and challanges as well, and stun with how I've spent my life and what I've done to be considered tough. Think I'll take a pass on all that nonsense and try to enjoy the thought of a vacation again.
Cheers

Probably the man to ask is Steve in the Aussie bar.. He tencds to be really up on the Sat scene having multiple systems in his place and knowing a lot about sat encryption etc..
IF its televised in this part of the globe he would probably know what bird it is on and what channel.. Then its a case of finding the timing and place it can be seen..

i just dont think a sports bar could work in thailand because of the lack of satellite tv.

i think i used the wrong word. what i meant to say was that to a successful sports bar that would attract all sorts of sports fans, youd need some kind of satellite dish that would allow you to get games from other countrys. not just teh ones that UBC puts on

Also with the time change it makes it difficult to watch the NAmerican games. Although European games should be OK.
I once watch the NHL playoffs in a bar in Soi Crocodile. Couldn't hear shite but atleast I could watch it.
Cheers,
Ashley
