13 Months On
Hi everyone. I am off to Bangkok and then Phuket on 23 March till 10th April. I know its 13 months on since the Tsunami but I am still worried that it wont be busy, everything will look a bit messy etc. I am worried that me and my partner will be the only ones on the beaches and out at night. We were planning to visit Phi Phi for a couple of days as well but have read really bad stuff saying that things there still havent got up and running!
Can anyone help?

I went to the Phi Phi islands for a day trip a few weeks ago, and my advice to you would be not to stay any nights there. From what i saw, the place was still a bit run down, and the shops there were mainly scuba diving, and the one "hotel" i think it was, all seemed to be asian travel groups, it just didn't seem that nice, but the day trip is great.. It just isn't worth it, you will see all the nice places if you do a 1 day trip... If you want to live large for a few nights just book into a hotel in laguna, near bang tao beach, really good service, and nice and relaxed. BTW im not sure what it will be like then, but im sure you won't be the only ones. Enjoy ;D

Just had 3 weeks in Patong - absolutely jam-packed. Don't listen to media cr@p, Patong was up and running very quickly after Tsunami, problem was press did not report it.

Press only like bad news, bird flu, earthquakes, floods, terrorism etc. If we listened to them we would do nothing and go nowhere.
What a relief to be in Phuket for 2 weeks in New year and not have to read one UK newspaper, or watch the news.
Back to reality now at home and hating every minute of it.

are you serious? do you bother reading the forum before you post anything. all weve talked about for the last year is how the conditions are in patong. all youve heard for the last motnh on this forum is that its packed to the gills. why dont you do some reading before you ask a question.

Patong is busy
IMO Patong Beach is better now than before the tsunami.I mean no disrespect to the families who lost loved ones. Some of the old shanties were washed away and will not be replaced. The local government had made its best efforts to make the beach and its facilities better.
In March the place will still be busy and the weather very hot.Bring plenty of sun screen and cash

Patong Busy?
Try booking a flight! Thai airways was full in economy on three dates I tried! I am flying business class now. - Well I won't let a lilttle thing like a full aircraft stop me getting there!
As a matter for fact though, before anyone flames me, there are many cheap domestic flights to Phuket from Bangkok. But it is harder to book them directly from the UK and a direct transfer is easier after the London/Bangkok sector. Business class was £70 return.
