Phuket Thailand

Hello All BM's and guests.
As you may have guessed, my name is Tom. I am from South Carolina, USA, but currently working overseas. I am 34 years old and have just recently made my first trip to L.O.S. I stayed in Phuket Dec - Jan 06 and had an absolute blast. I stayed in Karon, but did my nightly treks to Patong as well.

I wish I would have known about this board before I made my trip because there are some very wise words hidden in these threads.

Sure, I made my mistakes, and I got ripped off a bit, but as each day passed I learned a little more about the culture and the way things worked. I could have saved enough money for a weeks worth of LT's if I had read this message board prior........OH WELL.......I had a blast losing money.....
One can always make more money, but can not ever forget the fun they had while doing exactly what they wanted to do at that time....

I made my first trip by myself, and that was great. The only real thing that I missed during that two week trip was to have a good conversation with great friends. I was able to make small talk with just about everyone, but its always good to be able to laugh it up talking "slang" or just your native language without having to keep it simple and general for everyone to understand. That being said, I know its my own damn fault for not knowing any Thai...........But I will work on that.

I will be heading back to LOS March 17 and will be staying in N. Patong this time. I will also be traveling with a great friend of mine who will be making his first trek there. Although I am still a newbee........I did bust my cherry, so I believe I will be able to help him and help myself by knowing more than I did my first time.

Keep up the good work on this site. I hope that anyone that reads this will now consider me a friend and part of the family. I hope to get to know you all and am sure in due time will get to meet many of you on tour.

My first and only tatoo is the Notre Dame fighting Irishman ........Still not sure how that got there.......
But I know I cant blame LOS on that,,,,,its been there too long.

You are complete right about the blues........Only been gone 23 days and I have the shakes............

I can see this place is my new addicition. I can honestly say that there was not one person during that 2 weeks there that I did not get along with. I scratch my head and wonder why it has taken me so long to find this piece of heaven on earth.

Let me ask everyone a question....Why does life play the silly trick of either giving you enough time and not enough money, or enough money and not enough time?

Tom thanks for the intro. Welcome to the board. As for the blues they go away... after awhile. As for giving you advice on this forum or LOS, I can say this go back and do a little research on this forum. You will find more then one question easily answered on pasts posts. Enjoy the read I know I do. As for LOS being an addiction, oh yeah worse then drugs mate. Welcome again.

Welcome to the board. I notice there are some service men and vets on here. I am not sure if Tom is in the military or not but he is in Iraq like a few others on here and my hats off to them as well.

This may not be appropriate here but I just wanted to say a quick thank you for all that you guys do for our country. Words cannot express how much I admire and respect all of you. Thank you for your service, please be careful and come home safe.

To Everyone:
Wow, I came in to work this a.m. and opened up the message board (new addiciton), and was amazed at the number of responses.

I thank you all for taking the time to say hello.

Well I have good news and bad news.......Yes I fly on the 17th, but it will be from Dubai at 11 PM, and I wont get to Phuket until 1030 on the 18th. So looks like I will be doing Patty's day in the air.......
I could have got an earlier flight, but it was almost twice as much. Got a business class flight for 1100 as compared to 2100.
I am sure I can find alot to do with that extra grand in Phuket.

I do look forward to getting to know each of you a little more before my venture. Those of you who will be there, I look forward to throwing back a few dozen beers and shooters with you.

As for me being in Iraq. I was in the U.S. Army for 4 years during the first Gulf War, then got out to go to school. Made ends meet in SC for several lovely years.
I left SC about 16 months ago to come over here and support the troops. I work in the MWR (Morale, Welfare, and Recreation) department. I basically try to give those who are here a little joy.
It is a rewarding job, knowing and seeing what the guys do here every day that I can provide them a little piece of happiness and relaxation.
