Phuket Thailand

Hi Im new and thanks for letting me join. Im an Australian guy, 40 from Perth.

Im travelling to Thailand for the first time in a couple of weeks and will spend a week in Phuket City. Ive enjoyed wading through the forum and used the search engine to look up info about where Im going and what I want to do, however I have a few questions I hope someone can help with.

Im going to a convention and will be tied up most of the time with work and boring dinners with people I dont know. I will have very little free time, but in the little free time I do have, apart from a little sightseeing I want to be in my room with a pretty thai girl. I wont be with friends so dont plan to be out partying.

Ive read on the forum that there dont seem to be too many places in Phuket City where i can just wander into a bar, have 1 drink, pay a bar fine and take a girl back to my room. is this right? There seem to be some suggestion that there were some girls available in karaoke bars, is this right and can anyone make some sugestions about which ones?

My suspician from reading the forum is that given the short time I have I am probably better off finding a bar girl than trying to chat up a local girl who is not a regular pro. Would that be right?

Also do you have to wait til night? Are there places where girls are available during the day?

The first thing you need to do, is to determine if guests are allowed into the hotel you are staying at. Where are you staying??

Thanks Steve, Im staying at the Royal Phuket City Hotel. Ive read about the Zanzibar there on the forum but it didnt sound too hopeful. I dont think Ive ever stayed at a hotel in asia where they check out guests and who they take to their rooms. Is that common in Phuket? I never leave my room key at the desk when I go out from the hotel usually.

Its a very common thing in Thailand. Lots of places you will be asked to pay to bring a guest back to your room. On this board it is referred to as whether a property is GF or not, (Guest Friendly)

Not too sure if you'll find too much knowledge about Phuket Town hotels on here, but the best thing to do is send an email to the hotel, asking about its guest policy. If you get an answer back saying that there is no charge, then take a copy of the email with you.

Oh and also, report your finding back here, so we can file it in case someone else asks the same question.

This is Phuket City's top hotel - Taksin (PM) and members of the Royal Family stay there, so this is probably the least guest friendly hotel to stay in. You'd be better off taking a 2nd room in Patong - somewhere guest freindly (loads of options - do a search as many threads for this ~ 1000 B) the take taxi back to your conference early morning.

Thanks K2, how far/long by taxi back and forward to Patong? Actually my room charge there is only 1200 B per night I thought that was pretty reasonable???. I have followed Steve's advice and emailed the hotel about if they have an extra charge for guests so if I hear back Ill let people know. How about the actual places to find girls in Phuket City? Any ideas? Thanks Starfisher

you could go to one of the nearer resorts though, and find a girl to bring back to the city, ,or find a local hotel in her vicinity to take her to (ask her she will know)

Depending on what time at night most Tuk Tuks will be looking for at least 300 baht for the trip to Patong.

Alternate plan - take the local 20 Baht bus from centre of Phuket to Patong and then only have a one way tuk tuk to pay.I think the last bus is around 7pm.

Thanks for the advice guys it does sound like I might have to take a ride out of the city. Looks like I might be spending much of my free time in taxis!Andy mentioned one of the nearer resorts, are there options closer than patong?

I have a free day and night at the start of my trip so I may take K2s advice and stop a night in Patong but for most days Ill be in Phuket City. It would be good to be able to duck out at the end of each evening work session and arrange an ST.

How about other options like Karaoke Bars or ? Ive heard there are some in Phuket City. I guess I could put myself in the hands of a taxi driver, is that a hazardous option in Phuket?

I don't have any experience of naughty nightlife in Phuket City but i have lived here for nearly 2 years now so this is what i have gleaned from friends and general hearsay.

You are going to struggle to find a bar girl in Phuket City. There are places you can pick up girls like karaoke joints but its hard, although not impossible, if you don't speak Thai and arent used to how things work.

I think your best bet is Fantasia, which is a hostess bar catering to a Thai and Asian clientel. Its not cheap, about 3,000 plus tips and girls are supposed to more to Thai tastes, ie fair skinned. A girl with good English may be difficult to find. However, i know of some farangs who go there from time to time and enjoy it. To get there: If you come out of the Royal Phuket City, turn left and keep walking until you come to an intersection (about 100m). Fantasia is across the road on the corner.

In a similar vein are all the Pink Lady bars, of which there are a few. The supposedly best one is Pink Chamois next to the Metropole Hotel. (Turn left at the intersection mentioned above and walk for about 200m until you come to a big traffic circle, Metropole is on your left).

There are a few massage parlours in town which you might want to try. The two biggest are Grand Plaza Massage behind the Coliseum cinema next to Robinsons, and at the Pearl Hotel (which is next door to Fantasia).

If you want to try your luck with a "good girl" the best places are Jammin and Timberhut. Not guaranteed though and the "good girl" is most likely a bar girl on her day off anyway.

Theres a love hotel setup near VIP where the mamasan has a book of pretty stunning girls.. Cost for girls is 2000 all night and 500 for a huge soapy style room with big tub.. Can order 2 girls at once no problem.. Seem ok to stay all night there at that rate.. Room is 1st class..

Theres also the dive area in soi 11.. cheap rough trade.. to be avoided..

You could just settle for a 300 baht BJ at the Siam Hotel if you're not too fussy.
