brum vs patong !
hi everyone, firstly what an excellent site. Went to patong 3 years ago, unbeleivable, everthing was great, the food, the weather, the people, the scenery, and not forgetting the pretty ladies. My mate has lost it big time with a bar girl, phone calls, sending money, sick buffalo, you lot know what i mean, but that's another story.Anyway last year i went to chiang mai, again excellent, different from patong, but great. This year i am hoping in sept, to get a month of work, i would like to go to pattaya, and then on to patong.
I will pop in the mtb bar and all the other bars mentioned on this site.
Thailand does change you, would i like to live there (yes), can i live there, (not yet).but maybe in years to come. Since coming back from thailand i cannot get enough info about thailnd ie,websites, books, films anything at all.
Anyway i hope i haven't gone on to much, there is so much to say,
keep up the good work......................

Hi Brummie,
Nice intro and an enjoyable read, I'm not too far from you in Staffs btw.
This thread made me laugh as I thought it was a b'ham vs' patong debate and would be fun. 'Bangla rd vs' Broad st'
Well..to be honest broad st is full of women on a friday night wearing next to nothing but I would rather pay for sex on bangla rd than go with some of them ....haha just kidding
I went to Chiang mai last nov and loved it too, if you have not yet tried the Loy Krathong festival then CM is the place to be for those few days.
It starts on the 5th November this year and I'll be there.
Welcome to the board

thanks for the reply's lads, just another little story, in the local pub the other day a guy i know has just come back from thailand, first time to thailand ( pattaya), plus first time on a plane, talk about jumping in the deep end. He is going back in april, on his own. The way he was talking, you'd think he'd been about twenty times, he say's he doesn't need to book a hotel, his bargirl is going to meet him at airport and sort everything, how sweet of her ! I really do beleive when certain people go through customs, apart from handing in passports, they hand in there brains...........regards

Brains are not handed in, it's just that the small head takes charge and you are just a passenger for a trip or two..

Brum is short for Birmingham .
i belive it might have became a popular term around the northfield area of Birmingham where once the was a factory called british leyland soon to become the ill fated MG/Rover,the was also factories producing machines such as BSA motorcycles ldv trucks jaguar cars and Land rovers etc .

Oh regarding Broad St , it sounds good but once you have seen soi Bangla the is no comparrison.
broad st = about a mile stretch of straight road in the city centre full of bars ,clubs and places to eat,
Soi Bangla = bars,go go`s ,eating and 100% better than anywhere in the UK

thanks for response lads
patong is with out doubt, more than likely the best place i've ever been to.
brum is where my body is, but my mind is in patong.
Another little story, my mate married a thai girl a few years ago, she is still in thailand, getting visa' and all document's etc. He's working hard to get deposit for house, she will have such a culture shock coming from such a lovely country to birmingham. Everything expensive etc, you all know what i mean, very small thai community, I think she will get lonely, then again she might not, just wait and see............bye all.

Stoney Lane
Welcome Brummieboy.
Spent some time in Brum during the first firemans strike. We were working out of the TA base in Stoney Lane. The next day there was graffiti all over the walls stating "Troops Out". That's gratitude for you.
