Is my itinerary too busy?
Hello everyone. I will be making my first trip to Thailand on 20th of March. The purpose of my visit is pleasure, pleasure and more pleasure . I am making this trip on my own and was wondering if i might find a travel-mate within Thailand on this board. I plan to spend my first two days in Pattaya, then take the overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani, spend 2 days in Koh Samui, a day and night in Koh Phangan, then back to Bangkok by overnight train, two days in Bangkok, and finally back to Bombay. U guys think this is a decent itinerary? Im thinking i'll do Phuket on my next visit, so before the phuket-lovers here pounce on me..
Besides my ticket to Bangkok and back, I have not booked anything else.. no hotel bookings, train tickets, etc. Is this a busy time for tourism hence bookings need to be done online in advance? Or is it ok to do all this after i reach my destinations? I will shortlist a few hotels based on info from this board (hotel budget around 800 bht per night, guest-friendly) and book my room after i reach the hotel and take a look. And regarding train/bus/ferry bookings from Bkk to Samui and back, u think i will get a ticket just before departure?
This is an awesome forum for Thai tourist info; Ive been reading a lot of useful posts here. But there's one thing i just cant figure out.. What is LOS? Land Of Sun/Sand/Sex/Sin? Lots Of Sex? Lost On Samui? Living On Spirits? Loss Of Sanity?... Then there's 5555555 ?????
Thanks for this splendid board. Cheers!

You must like trains, way too much time wasted on the train. You'll need a holiday to recover.

5555.. But i am on a holiday m8. I could recover on Chaweng beach
From what i hav read it seems the air-conditioned coaches r not bad. The money i save by not flying could go into my "pleasure" budget Why.. i also save on a night's stay in a hotel! And the train journey will give me a peek at the thai countryside at dusk and dawn. Its just an overnight journey. Hmmm.. I think i like the idea..

I would recomend flight... Have done the bus from Bkk to Surat Thani, and never again.... Better take a flight and com there fast and in good condition...
Up to you, but this is what you will see on your overnight journey..

You are gonna waste about a third of your time travelling on trains buses and ferries etc by the time you get through this................
My advice.........see BKK and Samui.....and fly....it is not expensive

Have done the daylight train from Surat to Bangkok a few times when I was living on Samui, I hated it. If you dont want to pay the higher Bangkok Airways fares from Samui to Bangkok, then look into the cheaper alternative and fly Thai from Surat to Bangkok.
Long train trips are OK if you have the time, but you've only got a few days here and there. As they say "UP TO YOU"

he is from India and used to travelling by train and it saves him on the cost of a hotel room when he does an overnight train so I think there is some method to his train madness.

Tyfon, u hav a condition called night blindness. Thats not a black cat.. its a kuala bear. Didnt know u get to see these in Thailand.. Im pretty sure u dont find em in KL Anyways, i think i'll give the bear a miss and catch a flight to Samui. Its been years since i took a train ride and reading these comments im convinced im now too old to rock 'n roll. Thanks for the advice guys.
A kuala bear walks up to a prostitute and asks if he can have sex with her. she takes him up to her room. when they are finished she says, "that will be 50 dollars". kuala bear looks very confused. The prostitute becomes very aggitated repeats "that will be 50 dollars". kuala bear continues to look confused. Prostitute takes out a dictionary, looks up the word "prostitute"; definition has 'sex for money'. kuala bear takes the dictionary from her and looks up the word "kuala bear"; definition: 'eats bushes and leaves'.

My Thai Trip
May 16th - June 4th
I ended up taking Bangkok Airways as Thai Air doesn't fly the Phuket - Koh Samui route for my domestic flights. Bout the same price, actually $5 more.
http://www.bangkokair.com/discoveryairpass/
vs
http://www.thaiair.com/Promotions/Sp...azing_fare.htm
I went with Cathay Pacific for my intn'l flights. When making that long haul I thought it was worth paying a little extra for the comfort of Cathay vs. China Air. Plus, we were planning on Hong Kong for our return and it worked out perfectly. http://www.cathaypacific.com/
As for accomodation, we're going ot leave it up to chance, find what we like on site. We went ahead and booked our first night in the isles as well as our BKK hotel. Can't wait.
Departing the states Monday night, Bangkok for three days then down to Phuket, Koh Samui, back to Bangkok then over to Hong Kong for the final weekend. Cheers, LOS here I come.
