First, enjoy the forum a lot. And I thought I’ve been through some crazy times… Been living in Phuket 3.5 years now, and still loving every bit of it. I’m working from my home in Kamala for a company overseas (programming), but I make a concerted effort not to get too distracted from the drinking. Never been to MTB though, but will try to stumble by one of these days.

Hi sundancekid. You seem to be doing what a lot of people on this bord (including me) are dreaming of: living in Thailand and making western money. Would you mind sharing some info on how you set this up and how it is working, (I am a programmer myself).

IJ: Thanks. Not sure about being an asset, though. You guys seem to experience more here in two weeks than I do in 6 months.

Hooked: No secret to my ”success”. I just set up my own company and did freelance at first. As I had worked as a programmer for 6 years back home, I had a couple of regular clients. About two years ago I was lucky and got a more permanent contract with an English based company through a guy I met here. Mainly Delphi programming and MSSQL for the time being. Think he’s currently looking for more Delphi programmers.

Thanks for the information sundancekid. I have no experience of Delphi, but I have been programming Java for about 5 years, (and Struts, some SQL and XSLT).

Had a feeling that the big consulting companies took all contracts these days, but good to hear this is not the case and that there is room for freelancing. Are the freelance jobs by contact or are there many contracts up for grabs out there? How hard was it to get your business going? Are you mainly building Client/Server solutions? I assume that your clients are mostly small/midsize companies?

Hope you don´t mind me asking all these questions, but you have my dream setup and I have never spoken to anyone doing it before. Right now I am tied up in Europe, but I will to do what you are doing. Long live the Internet.
