Talking Hi All - I'm a Noob to the Forum ;)

Hi BMers - I have been reading your forum for a bit - quite decent info here - you guys and gals seem to know your LOS well and love it too.

I have never been - I have 3 weekd in September to visit. I read that the 'Green' Season - can rain a lot. But less people and cheaper. Thats fine with me as I'm traveling with my girlfriend, we are just after a good relax and a few to many drinks.

Couple of questions I can't find in the forum I'd like to ask is...

Places in the hills? We wanna stay in like 3 or 4 places when we visit so we stay all over Phuket. My girl is keen on one being a place in the hills - kind of remote, any Ideas? or places to look. I have checked heaps of onine resort places but not comming up with much. I have been to bali a coupel of times, loved the place - but it's turning becommign quite uncool. Last visit found the hawkers so aggressive all just a bit un-holiday like can't relax - not many tourists hotels were like 10%-15% because of bombs and other related issues. We did Love Ubud. I know Ubud is really a one of a kind but any places in LOS like it?

Cheers & must say great forum - keep it up.

Matt

Smile Welcome

Welcome Crazy Matt,

The partner and I made our first visit to Phuket in September 05. There were some overcast and wet times but it didn't detract from the experience. There were enough sunny days for the beach and pool.

I can't help you with the accomodation in the hills but if you use the search function on the forum you may find some usefull stuff to help you.

Perhaps some of the Expats and/or frequent visitors could point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

Ubud is more like the northern / Chaing Rai type experiences IMHO.. Nothing really ubud-like on Phuket..

Might look at Krabi national parks style (its very close).. Not sure but Mai Hong Song (may hon son ??) might have something like that.. Watch out for rough huts there though, I have heard of some of the 'natural cabins' being a little bit too basic..

Cool Ha Sip Pee Road

Welcome to the board

If you want up in the trees but still near the nightlife then look at the hotels and guest houses along Ha Sip Pee Road (50 year road).

There is The Hill Top and the Tavern on the Hill to name a few.

I just have to relate this in this thread...

My hubby, son and I took a tuk tuk up Hasip Pee Road (steep road up the back of Patong Hills) to a restaurant called "Tavern on the hill"...we had the best Phad Thai that we had ever encountered anywhere! Would go up there again just for that...but we'd have to have a beer across the road in a little place with the most spectacular view over Patong...we just went across after lunch to take a photo but too full to have a beer...but next time that'll be a must!

The tuk tuk ride was a bit of an experience though LOL...it had no gearbox and no diff...had trouble getting up and even more trouble getting down with much grinding and reving the engine in low gear to try to facilitate the failing brakes!!! A tad scary but we made it!!! LOL
