1st time phuket
Me and my TGF will be going to Phuket for the 1st time in august. I've checked around on the site and have not decided yet on where to stay. I've come up with Kata poolside, sabana resort in Nai Harn and Kamala beach hotel. We want some peace and quiet and nice scenery above all, but would want to have a little bit more to do than just a few restaurants. I don't expect any cinema's shopping malls or disco's in Kamala or Nai Harn, correct? And so, how easy or how long is it then to get from Kamala to Patong, or Nai Harn to Kata, where they do have these facilities?
thx

I got my parents to stay at KATA POOLSIDE and they said they really enjoyed it. They had the poolside room, which means when open your balcony door, you have steps into the pool.
It was very nice, and clean. Thats why I chose it for them. They had no problems, and they also have a nice restaurant attached to the hotel. You get 10% discount I think on all meals as well as FREE Breakfast.

Thx for the replies. I guess it's gonna be Kata Poolside. Kata and Karon will have enough for us to keep us entertained, I guess. Can do the other beaches in daytrips. A room with pool or beach access is a big plus and if you say Kata is quiet, then Nai Harn or Kamala might be a bit too quiet for us, so Kata it will be.
Thx

Agree with your choice. My folks where here January, and found Kata to be too busy, with tailors and problem finding beach chairs. The last week they stayed in Kamala (Kamala Dreams - recommended), and found it much more pleasant. Kata in August should be much better, not too quiet, whereas Kamala will be almost dead.

Weather in August
It rains a lot in August!! Big fat rain.
The picture shows Rath-U-Thit Road in Patong Beach and taken in the middle of August...

I was there when that happened , it was great fun.
Main reason for all the water was that the drains were sh*t , they have replaced them with large "storm drains" , so I doubt if you'll ever see scenes like that again.
