Welcome to the board Bozi! Is this your first time going to Thailand?
Std's are everywhere and if you don't strap on in patong there's a very good chance you will catch something nasty.
Stay safe and use a condom.................and enjoy!

Your right - Its to get their stiches cleaned from having a beer bottle broken their head or being dinged up in an accident.
Another reason maybe the clinics on Patong are to expensive for the locals who go to their own clinics.

Ghonoreah and Chlamydia - both similar is the way they react. Yes its a very unpleasant bacteria infection that can be quickly eliminated (within 12 hours normally) of Anti-Biotics via an Injection or tablets, although the Injection is far superior.
The problem with places like Patong and other "sex towns" is that this is very very common, that they are startingto build up even more resistances to Anti-Biotics.
Great thats what we all want to see is The Clap that can't be stopped. Not to mention the Genital Warts that you can get from being unprotected and they can show up a year after being infected. At least with The Clap you should know where you got it from, as the typical Incubation period is 48 hours before that "substance" starts to drip out the end of your penis.
E
ps You may ask how I know? I do alot of research into things that I can potentially get.

You can get genital warts even when using a condom IIRC... Thankfully never caught that, But I have caught the clap a couple of times, And can tell you in my case the injection done sweet fcuk all for me, The anti-biotics have always done the trick though...

To Hell with just a condom, I am going to wear my wetsuit from now on, maybe even a hood, gloves and booties.
Yes, you have to protect yourself but not every BG is an STD waiting to infect you.

I have had two experiences with "STDS"
The first was when I thought I had the clap then realised the pain was more to do with the roti curry I had just eaten with my hands. Chillies burn for hours!
The second was when I had a physical for my health insurance. Had to do a blood test for HIV. Wasn't worried at all but figured it is always good to get an all clear. The insurance lady came back with big grin and told me it was positive, laughed and then said only kidding you are negative.
Thats Thai humour for you.....

Another thai related website claims 10 bars girls die every month from HIV that they contracted while working in Phuket.
If that doesn't scare you then consider the number of working bg's with HIV that haven't died and are still working in Phuket

So give the link to the website so we can see for ourselves. Sounds like scaremongering to me.

And you happen to know this of course. Give us your source of information with figures to prove what you are saying. I don't think you can.
Obviously,HIV is a serious subject, and using protection is the sensible thing to do. But why do you keep telling people what they already know. Have you got it??

Here is an interesting read of HIV in Thailand - composed by the Thais
http://66.102.9.104/search?q=cache:V...1&client=opera
If that doesnt work - I googled Phuket Deaths Hiv
But what it came up with is the HIV death rate in Chiang Rai - oh well close enough same country!!
Looking at some of the other links now there is this one
http://www.undp.or.th/documents/Pres...HIVReport2.doc
The report points to warning signs that young people are increasingly at risk of infection. Too young to remember the hey-day of Thailand’s AIDS campaign in the 1990s, less than five percent of young people are now being reached by adequate prevention services. Only 20 percent of sexually active young people are now using condoms consistently.
HIV prevalence among injecting drug users is on the rise, from 30 percent in 1994 to as high as 50 percent today. Up to 17 percent of men who have sex with men are HIV positive, up from 4% in the mid-1990s. Not enough is being done to reach these groups with appropriate prevention services and support to these groups.
HIV infection rates among brothel-based sex workers remain high at around seven to 12 percent – a reminder that a significant proportion of HIV infections are still occurring in the sex trade.

As I said in this thread - http://www.phuket-info.com/forums/re...disease-2.html
These 2 need to be combined.

If the info is correct and 10 bg's are dying from Hiv every month the scary and more frightening bit is the percentage of bg's that are Hiv positive and still working in patong.
I thought that makes me seriously shudder.
Safe sex is a must

And how scientifical is that quote in the "Funkyguide" ?? Sure AIDS/HIV is a thing to serious to shrug off,but IMO some of the thing said in this thread reminds me to much of the scaremongering that occured when AIDS was "discovered " in the early 80`s....."you will eventually die if you have sex with a HIV-positive...the population of the world will die out in 10 years time.bla.bla"
Having had my share of unprotected sex in LOS myself (not a fact that I`m proud of)and knowing a friend of mine who had a 2 year relationship in Patong with a girl who died of AIDS in 1998...according to some then, the chances of both me and him beeing HIV-positive should be almost guaranteed...well either me or him has it .
Also my ex-wife,who worked as a BG in Patong from 1982 to 1996 and have admitted to have her share of unprotected sex, haven`t caught anything either !!
I agree...have safe sex,but don`t let scaremongering and hysteria get to you if you are unlucky to slip up some seldom time !!!!

Yahooka - i think thats just totally irrisponsible of you. Ok, you say you dont have HIV, but how often did you get tested after you shagged all these women? Say you shagged 5 women, and 3 months later (as that is how long it takes to get diagnosed) that you did have HIV, would you then track down them women? Then they would have to track down the men they have slept with etc etc.
Although I understand about the % chance. I did alot of research before coming out here, as well as for my own curiosity about hiv. They have done studies and if you were shagging a woman who had HIV for a yea or so, then you have about 2% chance of getting it.
I am not preaching as the fact is, I have had unprotected sex, but i am not proud of it. It has been 2 months, and I got a free hiv check back in England and also had one in Thailand before i left. Both results check Negative. But you still cannot tell unless it has been over 3 months.

Maybe we whould all be like John Travolta and the boy in the plastic bubble!
be smart and sensible about what you eat and what you do at night and hopefully you will not have any problems. Take as many precautions as you can(shots, preventative medicine) and avoid putting yourself in a bad situation(eating strange food, visiting an up country chicken farm, sitting on the bus for hours next to someone who is coughing the whole time, | |
