My no-newbie introduction!

Hey all, this is a great forum!

I'm not a total LOS newbie, so I chose to post in this section, not in the newbie section. Feel free to move it. I've been to Thailand three times before, going fourth this July - planning to make Phuket one of my main stops.

I'm a 34 year old Norwegian who sadly found the glory of Thailand a bit late (but I've seen people in the 60ies saying the same thing, so I should consider myself very lucky).

My LOS travels sofar, in three years, have been Phuket, Bangkok with sidetrips and then Bangkok with some side trips.

If you're member of BKKTonite forum you may know me by the same nick, and have read the July 04 Bangkok diary and the July 05 Bangkok diary. This is a diary of my last fantastic trips to this country! As you see, I had a lot of fun!

Well, this post is just an introduction, to say I like this forum and find the general tone in it very informative and pleasent.

I will finnish with a story from when I was a total newbie, when I four years ago built enough courage to go to Phuket and Thailand for the first time.

After a long flight, I got into my Patong hotel, got a good shower. My body said SLEEP, my mind said: Go explore. So I grabbed a chair at my hotel's bar. Got a beer. The waitress asked: You want to buy a beer for my friend? The "friend" sat at a bar stool next to me, wearing shorts and looking totally hot. She was working as a massouse during the day. Sure can do. Some drinks later I told her: You can show me Patong. She ran off to a friend's flat, showering, then returned looking even better in tight jeans.

Well, to put a long story short. We had a good time in bed that night. What a rapid introduction to Thailand!

This was four years ago. I still remember it as it was yesterday.

Well, enough of that.

I will be back in July, hope to grab a few beers with some members at that time. And I will try to remember to bring some Tyrkisk Pepper to Nicke to make some more Black Death (or whatever).

Erik (that is my real name, I remember many remarks about this when visiting Soi Eric)

Thanks. Yes, the tone in this forum is way much better than bkktonite, but It is of course still the best forum for Bangkok topics. I do not know how you moderate your forum, but I'm impressed. It could be that popularity draws idiots to the board, because the only other board I can remember behaving as good (and even better) than this board was a board discussing a not very widely available digital sound recording system.

Welcome to the Board, Erik.

I had a good laugh at your comment that you found LOS late at age 30. To my way of thinking you found it very early!!

Enjoyed you story. Reminded me of my first night in Patong: Body says sleep, Mind says explore!! Didn't get much sleep that night, had 2 girls!!

We have one man to thank for the tone of this Board - and that is, of course, Nicke!! There have been times when flames were buzzin' to and fro on this board like mosquitoes on a spring day in Michigan after a rain. But, while never backing down from a free speech stance, he has still stood tall like the rock of Gibraltar, keeping his head above the fray, and like a Mama sorting out the spats of unruly children, has quelled conflict when it has become overheated by deleting posts and threads which step over a line of reasonability drawn in the sand, that delineates a clear difference between free speech and outright flaming. His anti-flaming policy, and even-handed, no-favorites approach in enforcing it, have made the Board the friendly environment which we all enjoy today!

And I might add that he has had no small amount of help from SteveM, who was added as a monitor early on, and later additions to the monitoring staff, Dawsey and SteveThaiB, who have done an admirable job policing this Board!!
