New newbie

Hi Everyone! I'm new to post but I have been reading through all the threads and sorting out the loads of great info that's contained here on and off for about a year. I was planning a trip to Phuket last year but it did'nt work out ...but now it finally looks like it will happen! I am planning on going around the second week of Aug. for about 10 days and it will be my first time in Thailand (and Asia). I was thinking about staying at Summer Breeze Hotel for a few nights on arival and then maybe staying at a resort type place on the beach with a nice pool for a couple of days. (maybe Karon?) I'm sure there will be plenty of days with beer and babes but I would also like to do some cultural things as well...tours, temples, sightseeing, snorkeling, ect. I also would like to stay on Phi Phi for at least one night. I will definately be stopping by the MTB and will introduce myself to Nicke and hopefully see some other BM there as well. I've read so many posts that it seems like I know a lot of you already. I'm really looking forward to my first time in LOS!Thanks for all the great info!!

TJM

Cheers TJM and welcome to the board.......

Summer Breeze is a good choice by all accounts and is owned by a fellow countryman of yours Billpay who is also a board member....the only reason I haven't used it is because there is no pool.........but I have been in the rooms and they are quite nice..........good value for money

For your luxury option If you have the cash 2K+BHTish per night will get you a very nice room at The Patong Bay Garden Resort right on the beach (Beach Rd) with a great pool and 2 mins walk from Bangla.....

Phi Phi is nice but hasn't really recovered from the Tsunami....also it might be very quiet at the time you are there......

As for temples there are a couple and the biggest one is Wat Chalong down at the bottom of the island......but BKK is the palce for temples if you are spending time there.....

You can snorkel in plenty of spots........one of my faves is Paradise Beach but you need a bike or jeep to get there.........there are also local scuba diving trips which take snorkellers but hey why not try the real thing......

Have a great trip

Welcome TJM.

This forum is loaded with lots of great info. I also lurk around this site on a regular basis since my return from my first trip last Nov-Dec. I stayed at the Summer Breeze and truely enjoyed my stay (great value & good people). You can use the pool just down the street if you want (costs maybe 50 baht per day) or so, really don't remember. There is also a great fitness facility very close as well, Billpay would know the name & spot.

Not sure about Phi Phi though. Did a day trip there and there wasn't really much there. But it may be worth checking out far a night at least.

I may try to return sometime in late August also. But I know for sure that I will be there over the Christmas & New Years holidays.

Enjoy your journey, look forward to hearing about the adventure.

C K

Hi Nelson!

Thanks much for the info!

I had a look at the Patong Bay Garden and it looks very nice.. very relaxing...I may have to treat myself for a few days. Latestays is offering 1420bt at this time so i may get a very good deal! I'm guessing not GF but I will send them an email inquiring..

I have been very curious about Phi Phi since I saw The Beach...I really just wanted to get some good pictures of the Island and Maya Bay but it sounds like that could be accomplished in a day trip.

I will be heading straight to Phuket from BKK so no time there but Wat Chong will be on my list.

I would love to try the real thing, however I have this problem with my ears that would prevent me from diving deep depths...Is there such a thing as shallow water SCUBA? Would I need to get certified to test it out? I wont be driving there so is a longtail boat to Paradise Beach an option?

Cheers!!

TJ

Welcome to the board.

TaiLife (Fitness/Pool/Sauna) is located behind Tai Pan with entrance from both Soi Sunset and Soi Sansabai, they opened maybe 4-6 months ago and may be useful for people staying in guesthouses in the area without pool.

I go to the gym there 3 times a week now with some other BMs.

Cool Welcome

Hi TJM:

No problems doing shallow dives around the islands. Some of the best fish life is found in the shallows where the suns rays penetrate the most. The dives along Koh Racha would suit your tastes.

I would highly recommend Tai life as well. Cost about 1600 baht for the week (Included 10% discount from Yorkshire Inn on sansabai where I stayed) A really good pool and modern Air con Gym, steam room and sauna.Pool membership only is also available not sure of the rate though.

Hi again TJM...........just to answer your questions.....

Patong Bay Garden Resort was GF when I stayed there last year..but you need to book for two people.....asking about their policy for having a guest stay with you overnight is a good idea...and if they are fine with it keep the email with you.......good price you wee offered BTW..........if you can afford it stay in one of the rooms on beachsied rather than on Beach RD side.much quiter and closer to the pool/beach

Good points from Crusty on diving above.....agree wholeheartedly.....

and yes you can take a longtail to Paradise Beach from Patong beach......but easier + cheaper to hire a motorbike and ride yerself
