some handy info
I just got back from phuket , the traffic , construction noise , the annoying tailors and the smell coming out of the drains along the main roads , i had enough and was glad to get home . I have put together some info that might help the first timer to Patong . Also this a good site for info but can be hard to find sometimes.. bye Phuket

I think you should go to Canberra for your next holiday...definately nice orderly traffic, minimal construction noise, NO annoying tailers and definately no smelly drains...Cold as bloody fck though in Winter!!!!!! A bacteria wouldn't have a chance to grow!!! This way, I suggest, you wouldn't have your sensibilities interfered with...

Hey man, what about all the good things in Phuket... atmosphere, exotic foods, good beer, girls, tropical gardens, great beaches, cheap prices.... and so forth.
It must be fun to holiday with an perspective like you descibe.
Though I do find the smell of the drains a bit gut wretching - I couldn't drink at a particular bar because of the nearby drain... grate innit!

Thanks for your review…..Nothing earth shattering but a did find a couple of things interesting and maybe even helpful for my first trip. You kind of through me a little when you talk about a full body wax hair removal as I thought maybe a women or a gay guy was writing this…lol….Nothing you can do about the weather except make the best of it and find other activities to fill your time.

It seems that you had a hard time in phuket, 30 days out of civilization. Cant imagine why and how so many expats can live there
Found also some unimportant reasons like the sun, the beaches, the culture , the food, the nice people and the very nice girls, but all in one a bad place i agree
And last but not least : always those smiling people around you. made me depressive

There are girls other places in the world too, so I guess you are not coming back.
BTW, If you really want, you can make the same list about all the negative things in Sydney too.

Good point Frode........particularly if as I suspect cabraboy comes from Cabramata.......which is home to Sydney's Vietnamese community and one of the worst areas for crime rates in Australia...........

Love Cabramatta, only 10 mins away and awesome food. Great for all my asian cooking supplies, and a good perv at times
Has cleaned up it's image the past 5 years, still high crime and still has a stigma attached to it as it is the west's smack centre...but I have not seen a junkie there for years and happily take my kids there for lunch, but of course not around dusk or at night as I could imagine the place changes alot. Seems there have been more shootings in Fairfield lately, maybe Cabra overflow?

Yes I agree, Cabra certainly is an interesting slice of Asia in Sydney .... I too, look my eyes out at the lovely ladies, when there. I find the crime almost non-existent now - trio's of cops on bicycles all over the place keep things in order. And shit, it doesn't get scary after dark .. just quieter. I've walked those streets plenty of times night & day without incident.

Also Referring also to Mik72's Post...
I'm really glad to hear that Cabramatta has regained some measure of compsure...I mean this in that the whole place sounds like it's settled down and that everyone is getting along better in this cosmopolitan environment...
Really glad to hear it...Quote: "Cabra certainly is an interesting slice of Asia in Sydney" and to hear that you can go there with comfort and ease of mind to eat and enjoy the positives of the suburb...
Last week before reading this I would still have my antiquted view of Cabramatta as being a really 'bad, crime-ridden westy suburb'...

Went there for lunch yesterday since this discussion had reminded me how good the food is.
The only problem is because it's a lot nicer now it's a nightmare trying to park...hehe

Don't mean to burst anyones bubble......because I too like a jaunt out to Cabra once in a while......but if you look at national crime statistics you will find the area still amongst the highest.....anecdotaly though it does seem a nicer place to visit without the nodders on the train station......still see plenty of gang incidents tho'.......seems they have managed to drive the real crimes out of the main streets....which is a good thing....
My point though is if I lived in Cabramatta I wouldn't be slaggin' off Phuket....
